Hey, I’m the president and driver for my team, and I was kind of hoping to get more out of the 2020 season than whats happened so far, and I was wondering if anyone maybe knew how people who are seniors this year might be able to be involved in FIRST in the future, and if maybe there had been any indication that FIRST would change rules to allow past seniors to participate more.
You can mentor or volunteer at events. I have been volunteering at events for years now and I am a senior as well. When going out to college, reach out to a local team or district and see if they want your help. See what you can give from your schedule. While I dont know what will happen later this year, the rules have stated for as long as I have been in FRC that college students can be a drive coach.
I hope I answered your questions,
Charlie M.
I don’t know about Florida as it is not a district system, but in the PNW, 2020 seniors are allowed to participate in the district events that will be pushed to most likely fall or summer. Try see if you can contact the coordinator of your regional about this
Volunteer! I volunteered for the first time this year and it was a blast; you get to see so many robots and meet tons of new people.
Please consider mentoring - it’s like the party never ends! Being able to mentor almost makes up for the fact that FIRST did not yet exist when I was in high school.
Relatively recent graduates bring a different kind of relatability than old kodgers like I do - as a recent graduate, you bring a lot to the mentor party , please consider mentoring or some other form of volunteering.
