I don’t know if we are the only team having this problem or not. We have a wooden tip in our lift spring, which might be a contributing factor, as would the air pressure on our gear ejector.
Are we alone, or are other teams piercing their gears on the lift peg?
We have rammed the spokes of our gears into our peg (with an aluminum tip) pretty hard (very hard) and we have not had this problem. Our gears have lots of scratches, but nothing like this.
We have been placing gears pretty hard, and broken a few polycarb tips, but haven’t broken any gears yet. Scratched and scuffed, yes. But broken, no. I think you should look at dialing down your air pressure as has been suggested.
If I saw that happen on field, I would start considering G15 violations, especially if it happened more than once. Possibly also some R07 safety violations too.
We had this happen to the gear as well! We drove into the peg (aluminum tip) and hit a spoke and it put a hole very similar to the smaller one in the picture.
