What does your team do to get ready for kickoff? It doesn’t matter how grand or modest your activities are. This can include workshops, teambuilding exercises, lock-ins, etc…
Since here kickoff is at about 4am, for a couple years we had a LAN party the night of, and setup an outdoor screening to watch the broadcast.
Other than that we always run team building activities and training up until kickoff, usually with a couple weeks off over Christmas.
My envy is great.
We eat food.
This year our team is having a lock-in the night before kickoff. Our school is pretty big, and the it’ll still be christmas break so we’ll have the whole school open to us. Which means mario kart 8 deluxe on a big screen in the library, flashlight tag through the halls and we’ll have our pool open.
We do Bot Camp a day or two before, kind of one final review of the basics of robot building and tackling a project (last year, our pit cart) along the way.
Oh, and now we’ll also set up for Kickoff itself (within the bounds of NDAs, of course).
We tend to meet in the days before kickoff to discuss what our (paper) plan for kickoff is.
Somehow, it’s never our actual plan.
We speculate what the game will be based on the leaked/early released SolidWorks field model.

That seems to be the story of our team… best-laid plans of robots and men.
We’ve talked about this for the past two years, but never seem to get past the “this sounds like fun” stage of planning.
What about randomly guessing the password to the game manual?
more like analyzing the previous years and tweaking
what we do is a meeting the week before our exams for the semester to welcome new members to the team and that is when we show them our buildsite and what we do on our team and we also play card and board games as well as eat pizza and sugary stuff. always a fun time to welcome the new members.
This is probably a question for a separate thread, but how do you run your recruitment cycle and do you have a cutoff/deadline for new membership joining the team?
All of our students either come from one of our FTC teams or team members trying to convince friends or other people around school to join. Out cutoff is our signup meeting, in November every year we have a meeting for returning and new students to signup so that Is the deadline and then we show new people a little bit of the buildsite but most of that is our new member meeting tomorrow
