I know I’m not the only one that feels this but there really is not much of a point in having Image Discussion for Who Am I Pictures. I’ve looked at the threads and it has just turned into guys and girls hitting on each other, dicussions that should be taking place in private messages or IM.
A person’s contact information is usually available in a user’s profile.

I’ll third that… and I recommend people also read the announcements and not tag pictures to posts.
I anti-second the motion. It is something different than just talking robots all day so I say keep it. It’s a great way to learn about some of the other wonderful people in FIRST.

I agree to a certain extent, as the who am i discussions cluttered up the recently posted on threads. But perhaps a forum could be devoted to them and just not show up on that sidebar or whatever it is, like chit chat posts.
And yes, people do hit on each other in them, and they probably shouldn’t, but oh well. It could be considered off topic, I guess.
What do you moderators/administrators think of making a forum for discussion of “who am i”?
Or, for that matter, what does anyone else think of it?

I agree…It really makes me mad when FIRST-related posts get pushed off the portal cause of people flirting.
since posts in the chit-chat forum don’t count for post count anymore, I guess it’s not that bad of an idea to not have any posts from that forum appear in the portal ‘Latest Threads’ section.
I just wanna apologize for all of this…people posting on other peoples pictures isn’t to make other people mad…its to say hi get soemthing started…part of FIRST is meeting other people and making friendships that can last…I mean don’t we all already have something in common? we just spent the past 6 weeks with our own teams growing and bonding and taking everyones ideas to make a robot that we best see fit for competition…that part is over to an extent…now its time to go out and meet all the other wonderful people in the FIRST world and get to know them…and just talk…that way when we get to competition you can go up and talk to that person or those people and it makes the whole experience that much more worth it…and as long as nothing bad is being said then it should be ok…or else why would there have ever been the chance to post on pictures? if the oppertunity is there then why wouldn’t we all take the chance to talk to eachother…so if it is making people upset I do agree don’t let it show up in the recent posts or recent threads…but this is still a good way to be able to talk to people if you want to…its not meant to hurt peoples feelings or to make people mad…so yes maybe it should be changed so it doesn’t show up
While i feel that some of the things said in this thread are valid, others seem very shallow to me. I mean, how are some of the conversations in the picture threads different from anything in the FIRST classified type threads?? Those threads are made up entirely of people flirting. Its not that big of a deal to me that the who am i threads are closed, but i think that some of the discussons occuring on them did not merit the closing of the entire concept.
Other threads, as inane as they can become, usually involve more than four people.
Lately, the Who Am I image discuss threads have involved four people. You know who they are.
If y’all want to get to know one another better, go for it. Please, save us some grief and do it in private.
Some of the Chit-Chat posts interest me, and as such, I search for all new posts whenever I visit CD. A personal conversation among four people does not, and it’s something that, in my mind, should best be kept private.
I’m not against people being social. I just wish that things here on CD could be a little less cluttered, especially given that there are other venues that are far, far more conducive to that type of discussion.
I feel the same way Melissa. If you want to comment a specific person, even make fun of them, please don’t waste forum space and bandwidth by starting a discussion on their picture! Send them a PM or contact them by other means!

FIRST isn’t just about Bots even though thats what some people think. Its also about experiences and meeting people. Many people get college connections and some even meet contacts that lead to internships and careers. I don’t thinks its wrong to chat about stuff other than bots. Maybe someone should start a new forum category for random chats.
When I first notice that people coudl talk about my pic it was kinda a shock. But I thought it would be fun. Yes alot of the content in the thread could be covered in AIM or something else…but this was kinda a Chat room thing. I could talk with people that wanted to know me nad I coudl get ot know them. Which is what PM is for. But, at hte same time these people can get to know one another. Yes I haev started PM’s and AIM with a few of the people…but it is so much easier to just write a post to them on MY thread. I talk to them on other threads but it is hard and time consuming to talk to all of them seperate…I thought this “Who am I?” thing was a great idea becuase then I can talk to a bunch of poeple at once…But i guess taking advantage of this great idea was a bad idea…WHy? I really do not fully understand! People had posted that I should move my convo to an IM or PM…but they dident have to read it so why imput on it?

The fact that you even said that really really makes me mad…you have no idea who we are and Ash I agree with you…you probably didn’t even read everything that was going on in the board anyways…not very many people were reading them and we weren’t even causing any problems…and ashleigh is right…its easier that way to get more people involved…its like a chat room…so I’m sorry for being a girl on FIRST as well…all this is just too much drama! its not a big deal…they shouldn’t have allowed us to be able to post in the first place if people were going to get mad…so for these “four people who know who they are” we were just using the sources that were given to us…thank you.

btw, i have to agree. even though it was PRIMARILY four people talking, it was definitely an attempt to get more people involved. it’s not as if they were discussing an inside joke they had with a girl that sat next to them in 3rd grade. they left many questions open to reply such as “what kind of car do you have?”. if people chose not to post, that’s their problem.

I think the image discussion on Who Am I links is good… to an extent.
Could we possibly get a new forum that Who Am I go into? Where posts act just like chit-chat? (doesn’t show up in post count nor portal)
The most annoying part of the rampant replies is the portal, a lot of good discussions get kicked off the list because of too many Who Am I’s.
As to the ubergeek guy’s “open-end” questions that were posted, those kind of things have been brought up in the past and shopuld be brought up in the chit-chat forum.

…I really don’t know where to start about this.
Unless I am seriously mistaken, the point of the CD forums is for people involved in FIRST Robotics to converse with each other. What must they converse about? Robotics, Rules, “pick-up lines”, Regionals, Cars, Sports, Hockey, “confidentials”, BUT, aparently we are not allowed to talk to each other about such things as our own cars, our future school plans, what regionals we’re competeing at (basically the things that were happening in the Image Discuss threads).
FIRST is not only about robots. It is about people. Us. High school students. So, why can we not use it as such, and talk to each other?
Does it hurt ANYONE if people use Delphi to talk to each other (it is a DISCUSSION BOARD afterall)?
No, of course it doesn’t.
Are the things being talked about rude, or off colour?
Again, No.
The things that are happening in the discussions are perfectly legitimate discussions between people (several people - not just 2 talking back and forth) who are involved in FIRST.
That being said, how can closing the Image Discussions be justified?
