Anyone check out the Great Lakes Regional winner? I’m not trying to put anyone down but I don’t see how it met the criteria better than some of the other teams… this is the site that won: http://www.geocities.com/melissa_fayall/robotic_index.html
Once again, I’d like to not try to hurt anyone, but I’ll agree.
Even though the Geocities pop-up’s are annoying, there are still some things that other sites met (in my oppion) better.
The frame bar is sort of un-tastefull, and the gif’s are annoying. The robot section is from last year (which is the mulit-media part of the site) Lastly, the link to www.usfirst.org displays the site in only the bottem frame.
And now, because everyone is viewing this site, i’m getting a
"Yahoo! Sorry, this site is temporarily unavailable!
The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer. Visit our help area for more information. "
Yeah… oh well…
The site looks fine to me… I can see it in every browser on this machine (total of 8; 3 which are text-based). That’s something that cannot be said about all those fancy flash-based sites. The site may not be the most beautiful site ever…but hey, aesthetics isn’t everything. (I mean, it’s no http://www.seizurerobots.com/ :)) There seems to be much useful and informative content. The links within the paragraph remind me of Slashdot…but that’s not a bad thing. I’m also not seeing many grammarical errors (but I’m no English teacher)…that’s more that can be said for many other sites. It’s quick, informative, and decent-looking.
Hey…it beats the pants off my teams site ( www.team84.org … we didn’t even get to update it this year …we can’t even correct ‘Calender’ sigh) It seems that many web designers put way too much effort into their visual effects rather than content.
I just find it interesting that on the main page of the winning website, they have Flordia listed as where the championship competition will be, and ‘TBA’ for the dates of the competition & GLR. So, was this website even touched in the past 3 1/2 months?
I’m glad people are sharing some opinions here, just out of curiosity, who did vote for this site? If you read this, i’d be interested in how you came to the descision of picking it.

Especially since the ballot says that when you sign it you agree that you viewed all contending sites and such…

Team 5’s site is updated with as much content as I recieve. It’s not a flash(y) site, and it’s not the best in design, but it gets the word out.

same with Team 862’s site shrugs and sighs
I’m with you guys, I keep my team’s site updated as quickly as i get the info (and however long it takes to get approved and uploaded to the school server) and I don’t use a lot of flashy stuff, just like to keep it clean and easy to navigate and get to what you want and need.
Good point about the ballot, i don’t want it to seem like im putting anyone down, but I do think there are other teams that are more deserving based on the criteria that was given…
Ya, but if you were acutally at the regional you know there were problems with actually getting people to vote. Personally i dont think our team had a bad site, but i checked server IP’s for everyone viewing the site from wednesday through saturday and very few were from servers I ddint recognize…when I resolved the location of those servers from friday and saturday there were only a couple from ypsilanti (the city GL is held in and where most teams stayed) which tells me not many people actually viewed ALL of the sites
Well, some may have viewed sites ahead of time. I know Jack from my team did.

Um, read page 26 of Awards_03.pdf
It says sites MUST be reviewed between Feb 21 and the day BEFORE the competition. So… no one should have been looking at your site there.
