Gmail vs. Yahoo

Same here  I woke up this morning, and to my surprise my e-mail account had 2.0 GB of storage space. That’s always a good surprise :]

I would go GMail (I piddled with it a bit), but then there’s the fact that I have my BillfredIndustries.com address. I can’t figure out an easy way to send stuff from my BI account and receive it on GMail. Then it gets even hairier from there when I have to reply!

If anyone can figure out a way to do that, let me know.

If you’re willing to pay some, dyndns.org can do that for you…

Having just switched from Yahoo to gmail like…an hour ago, I may post an opinion. The interface on Gmail is fabulous. As mentioned, the speed is a huge advantage, because I love sending/recieving large files, and storing my emails. The chat-based email sort system is really handy: it is advantageous to see all the previous posts on one subject so you don’t have to go looking for them. It’s really convenient to get in to: it won’t ask for a password for about 2 weeks, and since I’m the primary user if this computer, and the only gmailer in the family, I’m fond of it.

If you can get an invitation, and aren’t afraid to switch all your account stuff, I would definitly recommend Gmail.

I haven’t tried G-Mail at all yet, but with Yahoo’s new 100 MB upgrade, I noticed there are no different fonts, colors, smilies, etc. … Hopefully that’s temporary (or just my computer being dumb) because I’m definitely not fond of that.

I have to give it to Gmail. It’s simply amazing. I have used Yahoo for almost 3 years now, and it seems nothing in front of Gmail. I love the way it works. But Yahoo increasing free space to 100 MB is not bad either. I can store quite a bit of information on there too:)

My sub-accounts get 100 MB, and not 1GB. Wishful thinking, I guess.

And FYI, the thumbs down icon (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif)on the previous post was inadvertent. I intended no icon, but must have accidentally clicked the thumbs down on my way to “Preview Post”. I apologize if anyone thought I was giving the thumbs down to Gmail. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice it in time to edit the message.

I got an invitation from Kyle Gilbert the other day, and I agree that the interface is nice. Especially nice is having the keyboard shortcuts.

Just a thought, maybe gmail is so much faster beecause it has not gone public yet. Yahoo has so many more users using it, that any normal server would slow down a little.

You won’t get rid of flash for as long as Andy likes Homestar Runner

You could install the Mozilla suite, or Firefox and add the FlashBlock extension, though. http://flashblock.mozdev.org/

Hotmail to follow in Yahoo!'s footsteps:

One point that favors Yahoo for me is it doesnt block " .lib " files

We have been having trouble with gmail blocking our Vex mplab zip files. I finally figured out that the

.lib

was the offending file. Grrr… costs us a lot of lost code when we needed it at a competition.

Gack! Zombie thread! Please don’t resurrect old threads.

I haven’t deleted a single message in my gmail mailbox since March 4th, 2007.

I am using 5% of the space gmail gives me with almost 5000 messages.

I joined August, 19 2006

Since then I’ve received 23,657 emails.

And according to Gmail:
You are currently using 2939 MB (40%) of your 7332 MB.

But but…zombie threads can be tons of fun

I have both Gmail and Yahoo. I mainly use Gmail because it is more userfriendly and comes with Google Maps, Google Docs, iGoogle and much more. Also, I sometimes sends files between my two accounts and, because Gmail supports up to 20mb attachments, it will send from Gmail but Yahoo will not take it.

Apparently not!

sees original post date… eyes pop out

okay, so now that i’m typing blind and with one hand due to an unfortunate gravity related incident, i’d like to say i’m selling my meager portion of the internet to google (figuratively of course) due to one of their newest projects, WAVE. wave has not been released yet, however the video about it at wave.google.com made my cry tears of win. the video is 1 hour and 20 minutes long but it is .UH. .MAY. .ZING. i’m definately using it when it comes out later this year. check it out!!

oh yeah, gmail ftw.

Aim for the head:ahh: It’s the only way to kill a zombie.

I’ve personally only used Gmail, as just being able to archive my mail has proven invaluable. My brother has tried both Google and Yahoo, and he prefers Gmail’s interface over Yahoo’s infinite size limit.
