Other from the CHAOS131 alumni. What will the future bring?..
So is it legal or not to put the big balls on the side of the goal when it is knocked over. Is there a definite answer out there? I have heard answers going in both directions.
Second, if I have read the blueprints right for the goal, it looks like there is a caster under each of the pvc pipes, and a the base has a flat end at each of those points, so that even though the goal is an octagon, there would be a ( . ’ . ) configuration (the periods and apostrophe are representative of the pvc pipes at the top when the goal is on the side. This would mean that the big balls could not be balanced. However, I may be wrong, or the blueprints may be wrong, or I’m imagining things. Orrrrrrrr… no one has a clue what i’m talking about.

Keith,
It is my understanding that the big balls CANNOT be placed on the goal once the goal is on its side. The big balls may ONLY be scored when the goal is UPRIGHT. I am baising my information off of the kickoff, where Woody demonstrated what would happen when the goal tips over. He then put a ball ontop of the goal which was on its side and proclaimed “Thou shalt not place a big ball on a goal that is tipped over and score 10 points.” Well, I could be wrong about the exact quote, but it was something like that.

Jake, et al,
After reading Raul’s post, and the subsequent discussions, I had the same feeling. Since Update #2 did not mention the big balls on a tipped goal, I thought that Raul’s post might be incorrect. Therefore, I decided to ask for myself.
I spoke to Eric at FIRST yesterday afternoon and re-asked that exact question. They have decided that any ball (big or small), supported by the goal, which is not in contact with the playing surface or a robot will count. This is regardless of the orientation of the goal.
I was careful to ask the question twice and make sure that I was being understood.
Bottom line, I reported this new twist to the Bobcat Robotics team last night and we are proceeding as though it is gospel. I expect Update #3 to have this clarification.

Thank You Michael, for verifying what I had already said and very few believed. I kept reading all these post about people not believing or maybe they never read my post. I did not answer them because I figured if they did not believe me, I was not going to try to defend myself. All those who know me would agree that I do not make statements like that unless they are absolutely true!!

Hello All;
Which means that the maximum possible score (NOT that this is possible, just a theoretical number):
- All 40 black balls in the goals (not very likely…it doesn’t look like they will all fit)
- One goal also lying in it’s side (how the balls are magically staying inside is beside the point, not to mention how they are also not touching the floor out the lower side…mere trivialities); thus there can be 4 big balls on it’s side - 40 points
- four robots in the end zone - 40 points
- the stretcher in the end zone - 10 points
- the goals on the bridge - 4x
- in under 30 seconds - 3x
for a total of 1560 points, plus 10% bonus, for a grand total of 1716 points.
Will it happen - no.
But this does give you a feeling for how you are doing once you game out your strategies.
Does anyone consider 600 points a reasonable objective?
