My team purchased the GoBilda FTC starter kit for this season, we are currently putting together the robot and have run across the problem of having no way to couple shafts. I’ve searched through the kit and I can’t seem to find any. Am I missing something obvious, how do I couple motor shafts using the parts given in this kit? Thanks for any help!
I think in a pinch you might be able to use one of the hyper hubs to couple two shafts together, but it’s far from ideal. Ultimately, it’s going to be a huge challenge to build a robot with only the parts in the starter kit. GoBilda offers much more functionality in their product line; some of it you may need, some of it you won’t, which is probably part of why it’s not included in the Starter Kit. Most teams will be continually ordering parts throughout the season as they identify what they need, and that’s what my team has done.
I would be curious what exactly you are trying to do with coupling two motors together (presumably shaft to shaft). Coupling each motor individually to a third shaft with chain or gears should be doable. I would also look closely at whether you actually need two motors on whatever you are powering with them— often a single motor, geared appropriately, is sufficient for FTC purposes, including climbs.
