I’m not sure if this was posted before, so I’ll post it in case someone missed it.
There was a good article in this months issue of Wired Magazine about Dean Kamen, DEKA, and FIRST. It was a few pages long, and I learned a few things I hadn’t known.
Just an FYI, it’s the issue with the robotic guy on the front.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the article states that there are only two restrictions: the $425 limit and 130 lbs? I mean, come on, I don’t memorize and 100 page rule booklet for the heck of it. If they’re going to list all the restrictions, I expect to see the fact that you need to use a 30 amp circuit breaker between the battery and a speed controller. When will these magazines actually spend some time and get these things correct?

Well, you have to realize that reporters rarely state all the facts and even rarer state that correct facts.
They are not experts in what they are reporting, they are experts in reporting itself, so many of the details are lost in the articles.
I’ve read many articles of which I had first hand knowledge, and almost without exception, there are factual errors. That being said, I now take most information I read with a grain of salt.
The one exception is technical papers, or any article written by someone with first-hand knowledge.
