I am sure everyone has started hearing rumors about Google and Apple teaming up. I think that would be one scary alliance but the potential seems endless. They have made it public that the iPhone will come out with Google applications packed in it - which I like because the Google apps are very complete and only seem to get better. Take a look at Business week and Marketwatch reports.
The part that I really like is the whole transcoding of all the Youtube videos to H.264 so that they’re suitable for Apple TV. H.264 is certainly a generally more friendly format to work with than Flash Video for making fun mashup videos / parodies
They will rule the world!
[sarcasm]Doesn’t Apple allready rule the world? Now my question is, keep using Google, or not. [/sarcasm] I don’t really like Apple because they have so much out that it takes away from other businesses.
Wait what? I’m sorry, I really can’t believe I just read that. To suggest that Apple rules the world, and that they have so much it takes away from other businesses is mind boggling. Did you forget nearly every other computer company and major corporation? Microsoft anyone?
I’m not going to apologize for Apple anytime soon for stupid things they do, but I cannot see Apple as any more evil, competitive, or controlling than any other corporation out there (in fact much less). And if anyone suggests you can only use iPod with iTunes, remember, ease of use, and there are apps and plug ins that will make it work with lots of other players (maybe use Google, or is that just irony?)
I wonder how many partnerships they can make to create a monopoly. Apple + Google + Skype + facebook. This is purely speculation.
The first part was sarcasm, srry. But, the main reason I don’t like Apple is because it is hard to find stuff for my Creative Zen. Microsoft is just as guilty. Besides that, and the fact that we would have to either transfer all of our music to iTunes or find software that would allow us to use it with Windows Media Player, I would trust their product. Plus, it’s been more of a joke between my Ipod using friends and I. Srry again for the misunderstanding.
Google and Apple both share a common competitor: Microsoft. And what better way to gain mutual market-share and profits than to work together? They’re businesses, so anything to help them gain market-share and profits would be a boon to them.
And besides, Google and Apple are both wicked sweet companies. Imagine the intuitive user-experience and ‘it just works’ philosophy of Apple teamed up with the ever-expanding feature prowess of Google? Since Apple is primarily a hardware company, and Google only a software company, the relationship is even better.
Imagine the search engine power of Google teamed up with iTunes Music Store. I can’t remember how many times I’ve heard a song on the radio, but couldn’t remember the name of it to buy the CD/song. What if there was a search engine where you would use hum the tune of the song into iTMS, and using the power of Google it would find the closest matching songs? That would make me say Wow!
What about feature-integration of Google and Apple? Such as every time you save a file on your [Apple] computer, you could also check a box to have it automatically store a backup copy on your online Google Docs and Spreatsheets account for free?
And what if Google + Apple also had Facebook on their side? Instantly upload photos to your Facebook account from iPhoto? Use Google Images to search Facebook photos? Instant iMovie to Facebook video option? Finally, using computers would be a fun, social, and enjoyable thing to do.
Darn Westinghouse and Tesla for their idea of alternating current! It’s just so impossible to find direct current appliances to work with my Edison system.
This much you can already do. http://developers.facebook.com/iphoto/
This one I believe also exists (though admittedly I haven’t tried it and it’s not free). On Rogers cell phones you can dial #DJ, hold up the phone to the music and it’ll identify the song. I don’t know what the name of the company that provides the service behind #DJ is; but, presumably they have agreements with other carriers, too and maybe even the same idea online.
You can do that with the Chocolat from Verizon Wireless. One of my corworkers tried to do it with a simple song and it didn’t work too well.
