I thought of this while reading the Robotics letter thread, and didn’t want to clutter that with another topic.
In my school, at graduation, Forensics members and FBLA members graduate with special distinction. I think they only wear a special color cord or something with their gown, but it’s still something. I was wondering if anyone’s school had a similar distinction for Robotics?

Unfortanutely(sp?) no but that does give me an Idea, I could wear a radio cable as one of those cords for special distenction. hehehe.
At my high school they have the names of the people on the team that graduated in the program that they hand out. Can’t remember if they read the names though. Ogre would be of more help.
Hehe. I’m graduating with distinction…well…so maybe my school doesn’t know about it…but still! I plan on wearing my Chucks at graduation They’re ratty, mismatched, Converse All-Star high-tops. It shall be interesting when the principal yells at me…but I really couldn’t care less
Yeah, there is also no big deal if you participated in Robotics, only if you participated for 4 years they announce your name and you stand up at our Honors Convocation…a different cord would be cool, cuz im not getting the gold one…
This got me thinking. Why doesn’t FIRST do more to recognize it’s graduating Seniors? Especially those of us in since we were freshmen. I think it would really be memorable for them to give us something special, like a cord or little medallion or something.
That would be a good idea to have something standard that FIRST would create. Maybe it is something that could be brought up… perhaps after the announcement of the CE.
If anyone thinks of something to distinguish themselves with at graduation, let me know. I would be willing to bring it up to the school boards in my team. Or if anyone has ideas on how to bring the suggestion to the school board, and let them figure out the distinction.
If a type of cord is used, it would be neat to have them made in team colors, and then if you are a floor team member, have something different on the ends of them. (same concept as forensics)
I’m not sure how recognition works in other schools, but because there are so many honors to be spoken of, our school has a seperate senior awards night. All members of our team recieve a specially designed trophy, made to look like the ones awarded at competitions. Somehow that one trophy means more than the Key Club drape, NFL seal, NHS cord, and German Honor Society cords. So, if your school works in a similar way, you might want to suggest to your advisors that a trophy be made for each senior member.
To advisors and all non-senior readers: Suprising your graduates with a trophy is a wonderful suprise. We all know that we put our hearts and souls into this program. Proof of appreciation and accomplishment on the team is a great comfort. (Plus it looks nice displayed with all of your award medalions. )
