Grants for FRC teams

Our team is looking for grants that we can apply for. We do not have a class at our school, but we are affiliated with the school. Many of the grants that I have found on the internet are for teachers and class projects. I was wondering what grants other teams write to.

You’ll want to take a look at Foundations that are in your area. It looks like your local Community Foundation is the CFGCR. That would probably be a good starting point and they could probably also help you find other local resources.

Just to clarify, we are in northern California near San Jose.

Sorry, I read Saratoga and thought Saratoga, New York! In that case, it’d be the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

Our treasurer wrote this last year for our website. Maybe it will be of some help?

To add to Rachel’s post, we responded to a call for grant applications from the American Nuclear Society. Our treasurer filled out their form and wrote an essay. The application was easy and we received a few hundred dollars for a small amount of work.

Contacting my regional director in Los Angeles led to a grant from Google/Tides Foundation for our team.

I will make sure that we contact the regional director then and thanks for all of the help everybody.

In from Cupertino, so we it’s practically the same place, and let me tell you, there are no shortage o tech companies in the area, and several of them are willing to sponsor local teams. I would reach out to parents of students on the team. You’d be surprised at how many of the parents work at companies that can be potential sponsors for your team.

Also, I’d like to second the suggestion for contacting the regional director. Jim Beck is a really cool guy, and I’m sure he’ll have suggestions as well.

Definitely. We had 34 different sponsors this year, and many of them were found through family and friends of team members. Even if it’s just $25 for their name on the website, it all adds up.
