There are probably a lot of similar messages on this board, but I am compelled to express my gratitude to the entire FIRST community for providing me with the opportunity to participate in one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life. Last fall my son became involved in our local team, and soon enticed me to participate as a coach. As a psychologist, I wasn’t sure whether I’d be in the way or actually be able to offer something. I soon became totally immersed in the team’s activities, from hands on work building the 'bot to fund raising to team building and organization (sports psychology and teambuilding exercises seemed to work great with our team). I have been overwhelmed by the positive attitudes of all of the people involved. My faith in and respect for young people has soared. FIRST has been a much needed antidote for me after the numerous school tragedies we have experienced. I believe that alternatives such as FIRST are truly the best way to heal the wounds in our society caused by alienation, disrespect and disenchantment. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Ain’t it great? :o)
At the nationals last year, I was astounded to be in the middle of all these excited, talented, motivated kids, days after the Columbine thing. I couldn’t help thinking that had FIRST been in that school, something would have been different. Not for the kids murdered, as much as for the murderers…
I defy any adult to walk around the pits at any competition and not be optimistic about todays kids.
