If your team isn’t registered yet, and you planned to go to the Great Lakes Regional, then you’re out of luck. The spots are all filled up. Yikes!! They flew out the door!
Additionally, there are at this time(4:55 pm Eastern, Friday), approximately 20 Nationals spots left open for even teams. Make sure your team contacts know this and register NOW.
The other regionals are at fairly low numbers as well.
How did you find this is out? Is there a way to see if your team is already registered (besides asking the person who registered for you, I can’t seem to get in touch with them)?
The way I found out is that I am the person who registered the Ford teams for the competitions.
When you register, there is a list of the regional competitions, plus the Nationals, and how many spots are left in each one. Only the main contact for the team is allowed to register for a team.
There is no teams list yet, but I actually got the last spot for the Great Lakes regional. I am shocked by the speed at which the Regional registration has proceeded this year, but I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise, considering that almost half of the teams can’t go to Nationals. I mean, why not go to more regionals?? Maybe then you have a better chance of winning or getting an award that would allow your team to go to Nationals.
I think that there will be many unhappy teams that never would have dreamed that a regional was closed less than 3 days after registration opened.
Last year FIRST held spots for Rookie teams, I think it was 10 or so. They may be doing the same this year.
It is important that if you want to attend Great Lakes that you register and at least get on the waiting list. there may be openings and they will most likley be filled from the order you are on the list.
I hope you’re right Mike. It’s also very possible that a lot of teams registered for more regionals than they really plan to attend, and will later un-register themselves when it comes time to pay the piper.
It bothers me that we have reached the stage where so many teams cannot have the opportunity to go to Nationals, but we did see it coming, didn’t we? I guess it’s the end of an era.
Do you think that the time will come when the number of regionals we can attend will also be limited?
Even the folks at First HAD to be shocked at the speed in which the spots were taken.
This afternoon, I wanted to check how full the Regionals were getting. Being the main contact, I felt comfortable clicking on the registration button and logging on with no intention of registering for additional Regionals. However, before I came to the logon page, an icon appeared for “view event schedules.” Without logging in, I clicked the button and was able to see the events as well as the remaining capacity. However, I tried it after reading the posts in this thread, and it no longer worked. Maybe a glitch in the system??
