Great Telescope Length?

We were wondering what the fully extended length of the 3 stage greyT telescope is? We can’t find it in the manual. GreyT Telescope – WestCoast Products

Wouldn’t the overall length depend on how long you cut the individual tubes and the length of the constant force springs?

This is all about the tube length, up to the 59" length the kit gives you. The constant force springs can be bought to adapt to pretty much any length you need, especially if you use a supplier like McMaster-Carr, which has a wide variety available. Of course, you won’t get 59" x 3 in overall length out of these tubes, since there’s overlap between tubes to produce a stable arm (we generally use 6" of overlap in our telescoping arms.) So theoretical maximum for the kit is about 165" for a two stage. Of course, that’s way more than you’re allowed this year, since robot height can never exceed 48" from the floor, so obviously you’d need to cut the tubes a lot shorter. 16" tubes, for instance, should get you a 36" arm, not counting anything else like the height of the robot frame it’s attached to. You’ll need to work out just how high you want to reach, how low you want the top of the arm when it’s retracted, and where on the robot you want to mount it to figure out the tube lengths you actually need. All of these measurements will put constraints on the length of the tubes and whatever compromise you’ll need to make to get what you want (or as close to it as the constraints allow.)
