The Omegabytes (5727) are pleased to share the tool that we use to keep track of the grid during a match, including helping to highlight where links can be completed, etc. You can find our Google Sheets spreadsheet at the following link, where you can make a copy and use it for your own team: Charged Up Scoring Tracker - Public - Google Sheets
We use this tool on a tablet during the match (in airplane mode, as no internet is required after it’s loaded). One of the members of the drive team clicks the big checkboxes to track game pieces as they are placed on the grid. We use this tool both to highlight the state of the grid and to check that the grid was scored properly after a match. This tool has helped us focus on ensuring that we complete links, which was a specific strategy that we wanted to emphasize in our district championship. It received a lot of attention at our district championship event, so we wanted to share it ahead of the world championship event.
Features include:
- Big checkboxes make it easy to interact with a finger on a touchscreen device (tablet)
- Implementation in Google Sheets requires only a web browser, and is easy to update
- Oriented to make sense to use from an alliance station
- Indicates progress towards the Sustainability Bonus by showing the number of links in red (not met), yellow (met only if Coopertition Bonus is also met), or green (fully met)
- Indicates when the grid is completely full by showing the number of links (9) in a darker shade of green
- Indicates when supercharged nodes are unavailable (dark grey) or scored incorrectly (i.e., without a full grid – red)
- Shows the points that would be scored by placing a game piece in a grid location
- Highlights grid locations that would complete a link by displaying the points in red
- Can indicate the number of game pieces completed in auto, so that the total matches the “Grid Points” displayed at the end of a match
- Updated for the FRC Championship, including Counter for supercharged nodes, added to score
- Updated number of links required for bonus
