Hey, has anyone had any problems with an H-Drive going up an incline. This year there is a 15 degree incline at the platform. Should we be worried about this? We haven’t used H-Drive before. Any response would be appreciated.
We used an H drive in the 2015 season, where there were similar ramps. (2 inch height with a 16 degree slope.)
The big difference is that our H drive had the ability to retract into the robot so it was off the ground. This enabled us to drive over the platforms when needed, and then drop the center wheel back down to strafe. I’d recommend looking into a setup like that and draw it in CAD to ensure you aren’t bottoming out on the platform.
Our 6" Hdrive Omni had zero issue with platform ramps in RR (four corner double center on suspension)
We used a very similar system in 2015 but had problems getting it to the ground. We used a pneumatic piston to rotate it from one side and it didn’t provide enough force. pushing it into the ground from another point as well might solve this issue but also adds complexity. Good luck with your system!
Thanks!
Yep, a drop down center omni (we used 2) is the best way to avoid this problem.
For better performance put one side on at the front and the back of the chassis. Your strafe will be much more straight and you’d clear the ramps really well.
See 624 in 2014.
Also consider the 1” bump on the field. Make sure you retract it when going over those and don’t forget!
Where is this 1" bump located? I’m having trouble finding it in the rules.
It is the cable protector by the platform. It’s actually three-quarters of an inch high, but you get it.
It is now 7/8” high per Team Update 1, but now we are splitting hairs.
