Hab 3 CheeseCake

Every FRC Season there is a point in the season where a CheeseCake device is formulated, designed and implemented. In Steam Works is was the climbing mechanism that teams bolted on during the comp. What is the cheesecake item, if any, for Deep Space and the Hab 3 Climb or Buddy Lift?

It would be cool to see something like 148’s robot wrangler from 2018 used this year for buddy climbs.

I think most powerhouse teams may find a better use of their withholding to figure out how to triple climb. If we do, I think there will be a lot of suction cup climbers, as this one requires the least integration work. However, those climbers aren’t the lightest and are still ridiculously difficult to handle. I think this is probably a bad year for cheesecake, and the cheesecake that will be done will require a whole lot of work.

This might be the year that cheesecake means taking off a not-so-effective mechanism, so a robot can play defense more effectively?

but that’s just a wild guess.

I can see teams creating a single level 3 climb; possibly even ones that will fit on level 3 with another bot that has already climbed. However, I don’t really see teams creating a buddy climb (going up with another bot).

I think district championships will set the tone for cheesecaking at champs with space on Hab 3 being so limited I think suction corner climbers or would be cool to see a throwback to steam works where a robot on Hab 3 extends to drop two ropes with Velcro for quick easy climbs

I could see a team bringing in a suction cup/elevator assembly at the World Championship that they attach to robot #3 or #4 of their alliance, then play that robot in the round robin/final matches. Stranger things have happened.

Us as a team has considered an easy hatch mechanism to stick on a robot. I think specific game piece mechanism is an option.

That’s what I was thinking as well. I can also see robots (especially second picks) stripped of manipulators to better play defense.

In some cases, adding some large zipties to prevent a mechanism from protruding past the frame perimeter would suffice and is less likely to hurt a team’s feelings.

I might be going crazy but I thought there was a thread on this very thing a week ago.

Sorry for reviving this thread but rn 4414 is trying to cheesecake a level 3 onto their 2nd pick.

From what I have seen so far, the MCC cheesecake-kit will include two bolt-on iron weights and four solid corner bumpers. Words eaten with fork and spoon.

OMG, the thing worked! Wow! :astonished::speak_no_evil:

It looks like 6934 just climbed using a suction arm. Interesting that it’s been pulled off.

Yup. And this match they got the double climb with them.

A L3 climb is a good cheesecake for a 2nd pick that would normally be playing defense. That gives the cheesecaker extra time to score hatch / cargo points while their cheesecakee climbs.

And at least one more match after that. I was somewhat surprised to see a cheesecake happen, but if you’re going to do it you may as well make it simple-ish.
