Is it possible to complete a hab climb at any stage of the match, or do you have to wait until end game?
I can’t find anything in the game manual that restricts when you can climb. It only ever talks about where you can climb. There doesn’t even seem to be an “end game” period like there was last year for the last 30 seconds.
As long as you’re still climbed at Time 0 you should be good.
The only requirement mentioned as far as HAB climb timing is concerned, is that:
“A ROBOT that hasn’t fully crossed their HAB LINE to leave their HAB ZONE at any point during the MATCH isn’t eligible.” (Table 5-1)
So you can climb at any point, but you have to completely cross the HAB line and leave the HAB zone first.
Edit 1: typo
There are a few constraints on what qualifies as a climb. But, none of those constraints (that I have found so far) have been time restrictive. Attached are screenshots about the mentioned sections. Both can be found on page 36 of the game manual.
I would assume endgame is the final 20 seconds of the match, because you cannot touch the opponents’ rockets within the final 20 seconds, so maybe its the same with climbing, but I’m not sure.
If it is not specifically called out as illegal, it is legal. There are no rules against climbing early, so it is legal.
G13 mentions a 30-second end game. It gives additional protection in the final 30 seconds (or at least an additional sanction for a violation). But it doesn’t restrict climbing to only the last 30 seconds.
G13. Opponents in their HAB ZONE are off-limits. A ROBOT may not contact an opponent ROBOT if
that opponent ROBOT’S BUMPERS are fully in their HAB ZONE.
Violation: FOUL. If this violation occurs during the last 30 seconds of the MATCH, the contacted
opponent ROBOT, and all partner ROBOTS it’s fully supporting, are considered to have CLIMBED
to LEVEL 3 at the end of the MATCH.
I’m pretty sure the only time constraint is that it’s only scored at the end of the match
Is it legal to climb on the alliance wall? The rule on pg 36 of the game manual says that the robot can be supported by the alliance wall, and I’m not sure what that would look like other than climbing on it. Just curious.
The common consensus is YES, you can attach to the alliance wall. A common theory is using suction cups.
It isn’t legal to hook anything over the top of the alliance wall, but I don’t see anything stopping you from using suction cups or something.
I find nothing including the Alliance Wall as part of the Hab Platform for purposes of G15C.
Also the opponent’s robots in the HAB zone - G13.
If robots are hit in the HAB in the last 30 seconds of the match, all hit are considered to have climbed to Level 3. That’s 36 points and a RP if all the opponent’s are hit.
Not only all that are hit, but also those who weren’t hit but were supported by one who was hit. The following is under G13:
If this violation occurs during the last 30 seconds of the MATCH, the contacted opponent ROBOT, and all partner ROBOTS it’s fully supporting, are considered to have CLIMBED to LEVEL 3 at the end of the MATCH.
Wouldn’t attaching to the wall violate this:
G15. Be careful about what you interact with. DRIVE TEAMS, ROBOTS, and OPERATOR
CONSOLES are prohibited from the following actions with regards to interaction with ARENA
elements. Items A-D exclude GAME PIECES and the HAB PLATFORM.
A. Grabbing (excluding DRIVE TEAM interaction with FIELD elements in their areas)
B. Grasping (excluding DRIVE TEAM interaction with FIELD elements in their areas)
C. Attaching (including the use of hook tape to anchor to the FIELD carpet and excluding use
of the PLAYER STATION hook-and-loop tape, plugging in to the provided power outlet, and
plugging the provided Ethernet cable in to the OPERATOR CONSOLE)
D. Hanging
E. Deforming
F. Becoming entangled
G. Damaging
