In the field drawings for building the wooden hangar, on TE-22322 there is a note about “floor protection”, specifically: “If using without floor protection lower the placement of [3] by .375" (3/8") 53.06in (53 1/16) becomes 52.69in (52 11/16).”
What is the floor protection that they are referencing here?
It cannot be the carpet, since the top of the carpet would be zero in relation to everything else. It cannot be the plywood at the base of the legs (TE-22318), since that is 0.72" (3/4" plywood).

The hanger is built on the field carpet.
Then a layer of masonite goes on the inside of the hanger area, finally that’s covered by another piece of field carpet cut to fit. Then all taped down to the regular field carpet.
So, it’s a little thicker under the rungs to protect the venue floor from falling robots.

From the game manual:
The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rungs are measured relative to the top of the floor protection, whereas the first rung is measured relative to main, lower, field carpet.
This floor protection also existed last year, it is to protect the floor of gyms and other things if robots fall off the rungs while hanging.
Awesome, thank you both so much, this was exactly what I was missing
