So me and my team are having a disagreement about if an alliance can have three robots hanging on the shield generator. how even if its not level its still enough points to get the rp. the rules dont exactly say we can/cant.
I think you need to look at the point values for hanging, specifically the box just to the left of that in the table.
LEVEL with 1-3 ROBOTS HANGING (per ALLIANCE)
I think that specifically says CAN.
thats what i was thinking but my team is not entirely convinced
You need 65 Point for the RP. The only way to get this is 2 climbed robots (25 each), with a balanced bar (15), or to have three climbed robots (25 each).
The rules say you can score with three hanging robots. This means three robots can hang.
You could also hypothetically use the lever effect to be able to balance the bar with 3 robots. Have 2 robots hang close to the center of the bar and the third on the very edge of the opposite site. I haven’t ran the exact physics of the weights to see if the bar is long enough to achieve this with 3 120lb robots but in principle it should be possible.
Seems dangerous.
Not any more dangerous than buddy-climbs
Seems dangerous too .
Who says you have to pick one side or the other?
But you only have 12 in. to work outside the robot perimeter, or am I missing something?
As far as I can tell you do, that said the manual does explicitly allow for robots lifting each other. I didn’t suggest doing a buddy-climb, but if you can you essentially have a 240lb weight on one side and a 120lb on the other, which you should be able to balance if you calculate the correct positions out.
You technically dont need to balance when hanging 3 bots. 75 pts for a 3 bot climb will yield the RP and is better then a 2 bot balance climb(65pts)
This where my confusion is to. If the bar is raised with one already hung it is going to be difficult to get the 2nd on there without going outside perimeter
Why? You’re reaching vertically to get to the RUNG, not horizontally.
Max robot height is 45” in starting config. With 12” of extension. The max height achievable would be less than the generator.
The rung is 9-1/2’ long. There’s plenty of room to get all three robots under it. As @GaryVoshol notes, vertical reaching is not limited by the rules, just outside the frame perimeter.
Ok I misinterpreted the vertical reaching limit.
The 12" rule applies to extensions outside of the frame perimeter.
By definition, “Inside the frame peremeter” is an infinitely tall volume.
Thus, (theoretically) infinite vertical extension while in the ENDGAME and the area (whose name I can’t remember) under the rung is legal.
