Hard drive magnet mounts

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how the hard drive magnets for minibots could be mounted with the new GDC ruling that the brackets have to come off? Thanks

You could try using either of the two allowed glue classifications (polycarbonate or PVC) or you could simply use normal hardware using an edge clamping method.

.030 polycarb sheet as a strap over it?

I thought the glue used in manufacturing was likely epoxy, but another poster reported that he’d actually removed the bracket by prying, and it appeared to be cyanoacrylate. If that’s the case, you could soak the magnets for a few days in acetone to try to loosen them up—acetone dissolves cyanoacrylate, which is the main component of most superglue. (Unfortunately, the bond gap is usually so thin with cyanoacrylate that it may take quite a while to diffuse in. Gentle, continuous agitation may help.)

As for brackets on or off, have a look at the discussion in this thread.

Removing them really isnt my problem, mounting them is. Any suggestions?

Then the super-thin polycarbonate sheet is your best bet. You can find stuff as thin as 0.005 in on McMaster-Carr’s website.
