Well, thursday was cut off at 10:30 in Colorado, and it doesn’t look like the snow will be letting up anytime soon… So… Thinking about tomorrow, if it’s cancelled, what will happen?
=(
I can’t fathom not being able to compete at the regional… Possible the last event of my FIRST career as a student.
If FIRST cancels a regional, then it’s major $$$$ that they pretty much completely lose. Either the regional gets canceled pre-season (NZ and Brazil this year) or it doesn’t, as far as I know. Also AFAIK, no regional has ever been canceled.
Last year at Finger Lakes, the event was pushed back an hour or two because of snow on Saturday. That’s the only last minute change I know of, though I’m sure there’s been others.
To ensure the safety of our teams, mentors, volunteers, and Denver University staff and contractors, FIRST will delay the Colorado Regional event until weather conditions improve. It is our intention to continue with the competition under a new schedule which will be posted here early tomorrow morning (Friday, March 27).
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Many teams, and FIRST itself, pay for these events, as Eric said, so my guess is it will be later, but they will not cancel it.
2 years ago in CT, schools were canceled, which meant no after-school activities, including robotics. We were determined to attend the Friday event, even though the schools said no. We drove the students ourselves on Friday. At the end of the day, we were driving in blizzard conditions & heavy snow accumulation. We had to drive on Saturday as well. The schools tried to discipline;ine the student, but had major apposition from parents & backed off. Hey, it’s only snow, just more fun to drive in!
