I was thinking of doing a LAN at my local school to raise funds for the local rookie robotics teams or some other way to include robotics. I’ve been to a few LAN parties but just gamed but never really thought how to run one and make it successful. any hints or tips are greatly appreciated thanks! :]

My school hosts one here in the commons every semester or so. I’ll see if I can get any of the guys that go to post more details for you. They are quite successful, and have food, etc. available during the night.
thank you and i look forward to the info
Been to two, hosted at a friend’s house, so here’s my 2 cents

Food. Drinks. Lots. Gamer’s get hungry/thirsty fast, and having a drink or a snack near will keep 'em playing and keep 'em happy!

Make sure either you or someone helping you out knows how to set up LAN networks. Sometimes computers give you grief.

If we’re talking about a general LAN, it would be a VERY good idea to either require people virus scan their computer’s before hand, or distribute some free scanning software before they can get on the network. A virus would be a bad way to bring down a LAN.

People can bring their own games, but make sure you promote a few games in particular. You can get people who already have those games coming then, and it’ll make for more interesting LANing.
I went to a computer school back before i moved to college. I got them started hosting them. I was the head.
Food and drink must,
charge somekind of entrance fee so you can get prizes and stuff for the winner.
CHECK TO SEE WHAT PLUGS GO TO WHAT CIRCUIT BREAKER AND THAT THEY CAN HANDLE THE LOAD.
Set up a day or a couple of hours early so you can work out the bugs in the lan
Decide if youw ant to allow the gamers to have access to the internet. I have done both and if you want to make sure the connection is secure
anything else youw ant ot know im me at sirminnyme I have run about 20 of them and they are still going on i just move to college.
thanks for all the input but i must close this because it is no longer my senior project.
I’ll see if I can get my friend to write up some tips and such for you, he runs them all the time. Unfortunately, I haven’t been to any of them, but I definitely plan on going to one once I get my license…or once my parents let me drive with him. Haha, but anyways, I’ll definitely get some information for you on that. Good idea!
