Have you ordered extra solenoids?

I have read through many threads, and have tried to chase down extra solenoids for many hours, too many!

Has anyone successfully ordered extra pneumatic solenoids? I would greatly appreciate a part number and the source.

I would prefer 12 volt.

Thank You

I am struggling with the same issue. I have given up on Festo since I read somewhere that they are out of stock of the one they provide to FRC teams only. I have narrowed down to SMC SY3000 series and will probably get it from Motion Industries or Fastenal. I spent hours looking on SMC’s website and learned more about solenoid valves than I care to know at this point. I am still not sure which one I should get. There are many, many choices. I will call SMC tomorrow and see if someone can help me. If not, hopefully somebody at Motion Industries can help me choose.

If there are any teams out there who used SMC’s solenoid valve before or know where to get them from, please post part number and vendor name here.

On thissite they give you the model part number if that helps.

We’re running into the same issue. I actually found a nearly endless supply of solenoid valves that met all of the requirements except that their operating pressure is 0-100 psi and not the 125 psi FIRST requires. I cannot find a 3 way valve that does all the stuff needed that works at 12 volts.

I am looking for the valves FIRST used to hand out but can’t find a distributor with any in stock. If anyone has any leads on where a person can get 10 valves that meets FIRST requirements please give us a clue.

Thanks

This is what I found out today after spending more hours figuring out what to order. I just placed an order.

Do not try to order the whole assembly, e.g. SY3149-6XX-01T. It will tell you SMC has nothing in stock and they have to ship from Japan which takes 2-3 weeks.

Thanks to Jsasaki who pointed out the link to the SMC site for FIRST teams. It gave me the idea that you have to order the two parts separately. I want SY3140-6XX and only SY3140-6L or SY3140-6LZ are in stock in the US. The other one SY3000-27-1T is available. I don’t know if SY3000-27-1T comes with the gasket (goes between the two items) or not. I asked them to check the gasket part number SY3000-11-8 but they can not find it in the catalog. None of the distributor I talked to stock these items. They just place the order to SMC for you.

This is a single solenoid valve 12V system with 1/8" NPT thread with Cv=0.3 which is legal to use for FIRST this year. You can order them from Motion Industries or Fastenal. The price is about the same. I hope this helps.

If you have any questions, I can try to help. Good luck.

Weve actually ordered extra solenoids, but are caught waiting til the parts get back in stock and wont get them til the 2nd. Pretty sure we have ordered from Festo but not 100% sure.

In < R 72> C. it says that you can use anything whether KOP or not it cant go over the Cv or .32. and if not KOP you must have proof.

I needed a 2 position double. The double has a cv of .30. I preferred a 12 volt that is what the 6 means in the 6LOUS. 5 is 24 volt. I finally found them at a SMC dealer in my area.

I just talked to someone at Festo customer service 800-99F-ESTO, who said I could order some of the KOP part number 13075370 for $63 each, but they would not be available until Feb 8th.

We went with the 09 festo’s 13026684 as we don’t need dual action an they are less then half the price in stock

Are they available from Festo or a distributor (if so which distributor)? thanks for the tip.

(edit: google is a blast, they list about 15 links for the terms 13026684 festo, and one of them is on my own web page!)

I had ordered 3 of the Festo valves (this year’s KOP model) early last week @ $81 each and was told they would ship direct from Rochester. Yesterday I called to get a tracking number since I hadn’t seen them yet, and was told they would not ship until Feb 2nd. Would have been nice to know that last week. I cancelled the order and called the SMC distributor. (Hopefully) I have 4 SY3220-5LN-N7 valves @ $60.89 each in the mail today from Indiana.

These have an operating pressure of 0.7 MPa (100 psi), but I don’t see the rated pressure; I’m going to try to chase that down. It’s the same series that we have received in the FIRST kit before which had all of the same pressure limitations so someone at FIRST must have deemed it safe. Unfortunately I doubt that argument will get me very far.

Not to worry. You can use them. Check out the latest Team Update at USFIRST. If they are not rated at least 125psi, you install a pressure relief at the rated pressure valve in the same circuit.

Yeah I know, my argument was sort of related to the fact that we never needed a separate pressure relief valve in order to use these exact valves before so why should we now?

Also, I sent a question to SMC to ask what their “pressure rating” is; the catalog only says “operational pressure”, which could be a different number (they may not operate but they won’t blow up either).

Tort law. Sad but true.

I got this email from the distributor this morning:

“Gary
I was just informed that SMC is closed for inventory and your order will not ship until Monday, 2/1/10”

Where is the crying emoticon?

Sorry for the delay and had to make sure it was ok for me to post his information here gotta keep sponsors happy

To get the 09 style single solenoid 13026684 you can call:

Alan from Eastern Bearings Inc.
Phone: 860-290-4894 or for out of state 800-233-6885
You will need a credit card and they will drop ship directly to you. I believe he said expedited shipping is available at an additional charge.

They are a FESTO distributor but if you want a different solenoid please have your part # before you call. They normally dont do much in the “small order retail” but i explained to him the situation and trouble getting legal solenoids and he said he would be happy to help.

Don’t bother asking about the 24v 2010 KOP solenoid it has an MSRP of $178 so for them you have to go through festo corporate to get them for the $70ish price and wait until FEB 2nd or the 9th

Hope this helps a few teams!!!

Edit: P.S. Tell them you were refered by the forums!

Here is an update. The SMC valve SY3140-6LZ I ordered came with the gasket and the fasteners. I was also told the gasket part number in the catalog is wrong. We connected it today and it worked great. However it was not without struggle. First, a brand new spike relay did not work, then we found out a brand new digital sidecar relay zone did not work, then we found out a brand new Festo valve from 2009 KOP did not work. We swapped the SMC valve in and it worked great. We wasted about half a day because of these problems.

So from reading this thread I understand that the Festo 13026684 is ok to use this year 2010? I can not find the date sheet for this valve.

Thanks
Bill

yup.

Just off the phone with Festo. I ordered on 2/4 (so you would have thought they’d have them by now) and they won’t be delivered until 2/18!!! Apparently, they’ve just got them in and are working on them. The customer service rep said they’ve been getting a lot of phone calls about the delivery dates and our robot ship dates.
