Hawai'i Regional Announced for March 2008

It depends. I put this on the 1111 team forum and they are really excited about this. They are really looking into coming next year!

OK, just to make sure that nobody gets too far ahead of themselves, we need to clarfiy a few things. The NASA sponsorship of an FRC Regional Competition in 2008 is dependent upon a sufficient number of FRC teams (typically 12) being established in Hawaii in time for the FRC season, and upon FIRST approval and support for the event. So before the Hawaiian regional is a “done deal” the existing teams have some homework to do (where have we heard that before?). Eight more teams have to be created before next year. So each of the four existing teams have some recruiting to do! Use this season as your opportunity to show off your team, your robot, and FIRST. Let all the other schools know what you are doing, invite their students over to see what is going on, and start marketing yourselves.

Awesome! Good luck to all the teams who will be attending it next year!

:]

Oh how I wish Florida was not so far away from Hawaii!

It’s great to see the growth of FIRST.

well, the pink team has been known for travelling around the us and canada. if we are welcome and/or invited, we would love to compete in hawaii. i think we were partnered with one of the hawaiian teams when the competition was held in seattle.

aloha

 AWESOME Waiakea is probably going to come next year…Our teacher was telling us about it and we were all so exited!

its finally happening! we get a regional that we can afford to attend regularly. its too bad i grad this year. But, its a sure thing that i’ll keep an eye on it next year.

i also sent this out to team 233 and they are all very excited about the possibility of attending (except those graduating of course) we also have a former mentor for our team who is stationed there. hopefully he’ll let us camp out at his house for awhile.

of course i would go to a regional here! it would be a blast to have one. where would we put one? some regoinals are as big as the islands ( :stuck_out_tongue: )

While going to Hawaii for a regional in March would be nicer from one in Michigan simply because of the climate;) . I think it would be rather expensive to attend considering airfare to and from here to there and the shipping of the robot. I think that this regional will be a blast and I hope it goes well and good luck Hawaii:)

Its costing us 670 per person round trip from Hawaii to New Jersey for our regional.
BUT Im sure teams who make the effort to come will not regret the stay here in Hawaii. This is a great excuse for teams to visit us here!

Since you are coming to NJ our guys are planning to visit you in Hawaii-

we already have a rally slogan-

“send the shirts home”

WC

Dave-
whatever we can do from the NJ end is offered. the internet is a communication tool but obviously we cant open the shop from here.

This can work if the guys on the ground in the islands can get the schools together.

WC

well right now everyone who has been to FIRST before is trying REAL hard to recruit more schools…we will hopefully get tons of teams…

i dont doubt the number of teams coming. the stadium will be packed! We might not have the room for the bots :P.

i wouldn’t worry about there being enough teams. i’m thinking that most of the schools that once participated in the HECO Electron Marathon may come out. Some of them already have. Also, thanks to our Governor who has raising awareness of science and technology; this program included, it shouldn’t be a problem.

yay! go governer Lingle! well i really cant wait to see the amount of teams coming here.

I would like to formally announce (and I have been told it is ok to post this) that the Hawaii Regional for 2008 is a GO!

We’re definitely looking to forward to showing off our Hawaiian hospitality and fun in the sun  next year here in Honolulu. I hope all of you out there seriously consider joining us!

Hope you’re all enjoying your last weekend of the build as well! :ahh:

That’s great! even if I won’t be directly involved with a team I’ll still be ale to see the competition if I head up there next year!

I guess we will see teams 233, 254, 25, 330 and a few more heavy hitters coming next year, right?? We have a fellow school right up there, team 368, the Kika Mana team!
