Height Limit Reefscape?

The starting height limit is 3’6’ and I know you can’t touch the chain/top of cage and the anchors. No height limit seems to be stated. Anyone know of a limit?

G415 Expansion limits.
A ROBOT may not extend more than 1 ft. 6 in. (~45 cm) beyond the vertical projection
of its ROBOT PERIMETER.
If the over-expansion is due to damage and not used for strategic benefit, it is an exception to this rule, and no penalty is imposed.
Violation: MINOR FOUL, or MAJOR FOUL if the over-expansion is used for strategic benefit, including if it impedes or enables a scoring action.

So height of 72" for the reef L4 but with the starting configuration + max height extension our robot can only reach 60". This is going to be an interesting update.

I interpreted the 1’6" extension as for the x direction only and not for the height.
Another interesting note is that you can’t throw coral unless you are in the zone.

definitely. i dont think weve had a game this complex since 2020 and i love it, its going to be a fire season

hmm it says vertical projection which i interpreted as the z axis, not sure might be worth asking in q&a

It is for sure, but FIRST should of checked both mathetically and contextually the manual. There are a ton of errors.

even the game reveal video there were some typos and you could change it to 2x speed and get 10-15 sec ahead, quite an interesting kickoff

You seem to not need to go under the cages and can just go between the cages if your robot is too tall.

the 1’6" is extension past the perimeter as shown in G415

Yeah the 1’6" is for horizontal extensions past the perimeter. It shows a picture of it in R105

Doesn’t the 1 foot 6 inch extension limit apply to the perimeter…? It’s a vertical projection meaning it is talking about length, hence the ROBOT PERIMETER in the rule.

So what is the robot’s maximum height in teleop?

There appears to be no limit

I figured plenty of teams will have questions on the rules, so I figured I’d make a forum for everyone to ask and answer them.

Our’s is - the robot can only start at 3’6” and extend up another 1’6” (Page 76) to a total of 5’. The top of the reef is 6’. Do you have to shoot the coral? Or are we reading wrong? This would make no sense.

As far as I noticed it says you can’t extend more than 1’6" beyond the vertical projection of the robot. This would mean that you can’t extend more than 1’6" horizontally. I haven’t been able to find any information on vertical height extension limits yet, and was wondering if anyone else has.

The only vertical extension limit mentioned is the starting configuration’s 42in limit.

As a team, we think that we have found that there is no higher limit. Still not sure.

I searched “tall”, “vertical”, “height”, etc. and couldn’t find anything. I’d imagine if there is a limit, it’s still enough to reach the L4 branch.

Agreed. I doubt they would let you drop a ball in the barge, but you should definitely be able to place on L4
