Help Collect YouTube Videos

TL;DR
Put YouTube videos in this Google spreadsheet and we’ll put them on The Blue Alliance

Hi everyone,

The Blue Alliance is starting to add YouTube videos to our site. They’re higher quality than when we host, can be viewed more easily on more devices, and are easier to crowdsource. We need your help though.

  1. Record matches! More info on this FIRST Wiki page
  2. Post them on YouTube
  3. Add them to our spreadsheet
  4. We’ll put them on TBA!

Hopefully this will help us get videos of more matches, whether they were recorded off the field management system or on somebody’s phones. We’ve got to figure out how to better automate pulling these into the TBA database, but that’s a simple matter of programming. If you want to help with any such programming, here’s our github repository.

If you have other ideas about how TBA could help curate a better collection of match videos, please let me know. We want to incorporate and link to as much of the community’s efforts as possible.

Thanks!
-Greg

Greg,

Would it help at all if people posting videos on youtube tagged or named the videos with your standard naming format as well?

Thanks Greg. I’m going to leave this here for someone with more time/ambition than myself. All of the 2012 Kettering District Competition videos. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEDDC12D912D2F66F&feature=plcp

I’ll try to fill out the spreadsheet later. I have several videos from Hatboro
-Horsham on one of my playlists you can see them there for now.

696 plans to record and upload all the Long Beach matches to YouTube in almost-real-time. It depends on what WiMax signal strength we can get inside the arena. We get 1.3 Mbps upload outside. We’ll see how it goes.

Greg,
Every Greater Kansas City match is available as a direct link to an .asf video file on the following pages:

Qualification matches: http://www.more.net/content/2012-qualification-matches
Quarterfinal matches: http://www.more.net/content/2012-qualification-matches
Semifinal and Finals matches: http://www.more.net/content/2012-first-semi-final-and-final-matches

I implemented some similar functionality in FRC-DB a little while ago - e.g. http://frcdb.net/event/kettering/2012/match/14
We allow logged-in users to submit content directly on the match page, and then it gets placed into the moderation queue ( http://frcdb.net/moderator ), where we can approve/deny/etc it for spam prevention. It’s pretty much 90% automated, and all the site admins/moderators have to do is hit an “approve” button, while anyone submitting videos just has to paste a link to the video.

The relevant bits of code:
YouTubeClient - extracts the video ID and makes a JSON request to YouTube to grab video info (tile, description, thumbnail, etc)
Content uploader UI - the HTML/JS code that makes the AJAX requests, doubles as a file uploader for images.

It’s all Java / JSP / jQuery code so it might not be a huge help, but hopefully it can at least give you some ideas! I’d be happy to help out more in any way if you’d like, just let me know

Here is the link to the Hatboro-Horsham playlist on YouTube:

I was only able to capture some of Friday’s qualification matches.

Greg,

With regard to awards videos, do you just want videos of the awards being received at regionals, or do you want videos of the winning chairman’s submission too? I put the winning chairman’s submission from GSR in the spreadsheet as an example.

Also, are you going to make a separate spreadsheet for videos from past years, or do you want us to put all the videos in this spreadsheet?

Pinging this thread to help get more videos uploaded for TBA.

Thanks guys. The first set of 489 videos has been posted. I moved those videos to “Already Added” on the spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApRO2Yzh2z01dExFZEdieV9WdTJsZ25HSWI3VUxsWGc). Keep adding more videos, and now I’ve got the tools to automatically pull them in!

Thanks so much!
-Greg

Boilermaker, Virginia, Oregon, and GTR East videos are here

http://www.youtube.com/user/watchFIRSTnow/videos?view=1

here’s oregon finals match 1,2 and 3… i noticed they’re missing from the blue alliance. i’m afraid i can’t figure out the naming rules or whatever to add them to the google spreadsheet.

all of the oregon matches can be found here http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1B94E8952454EA06

Here is the link to the channel including all of the Montreal videos.

I tried putting in some links in the google spreadsheet. I entered dmn for the event (Lake Superior, Duluth, MN) but then it says ‘No Data’ when I try to enter the match type, and when I type a ‘q’, it gets cleared as soon as I leave the cell. Are you missing something somewhere?

A large number of VA regional matches on TBA are incorrectly linked to corresponding match videos from Boilermaker:

qm5 - 9, 11 - 14, 17, 18, 29, 30, 32, 33, 35, 45

Looking at the “Already Added” page of the spreadsheet, it appears to have been an issue with entering data in the spreadsheet, not with TBA itself.

We will be clipping all the WPI Regional matches in the next week or two and uploading them to the WPI. We’ll send the links along once they are available. All videos are taken directly from the webcast stream, and any teams that want the original video files (not youtube) to use and edit for sponsors, etc just contact me.

WPI/FRC1735 is currently planning on providing the webcast for S Florida, so we will also plan on directly capturing the webcast feed there as well… to be split up after the event.

Just added 139 more videos from the spreadsheet. Thanks guys!

There are some Playlists on another tab in the spreadsheet. If people can take the videos out and put them in the main videos sheet to add, we’ll be able to get those into the site, too.

Blech. Will eventually build a “report a problem” thing where we’ll let people report these as issues. For now, we don’t have the tools to clean this up, but we have a bug to clean it up. Thanks!

I don’t know if you want to use these so I won’t post it in the spreadsheet but we recorded quite a few matches at NYC from the stands. Here they are if you want them: http://www.youtube.com/user/PJ9595/videos
We should upload more soon, we recorded almost every qualification match.
