So my team and I have a big problem. We misinterpreted the rules found on page 78 of the manual. Based on that picture, we somehow got it wrong so that we thought the frame was OUTSIDE the bumpers. The diagram on the top left kind of looks that way because of the overlapping bumpers.
I know this seems like a joke but we are not kidding; the diagram doesn’t specify which side they go on. So now we have a robot with bumpers INSIDE our frame!!!
There is way too much work to do before bag and tag - we can’t remake our frame. What should we do… are we just done for?
Side note, our team is really small and none of us really pay attention the rules. I know this is the dumbest thing you have ever heard but please help us :ahh: :ahh: :ahh:
i wish they put the last bumper picture (support details) first, so you start with an overall view of the robot.
OP, I also agree that pictures would help. If you’ve had other issues with rule carelessness, there may be other problems to deal with as well.
In any case, this is something that can be overcome, you may just have to be creative about it. Are there other experienced teams in your area? they may be able to donate a mentor or students to help out.
(if you are going to upload photos for many to see, i recommend making an imgur album, which is free and easier than uploading here)
it’s better to try to help and be trolled than to write off a team that needs help. if they don’t follow up, then there is no further action needed either way.
While I hate trolling as much as the next guy, I honestly think anonymous accounts are an important thing given the worrisome culture of “viciously shouting down anyone who questions someone of high repute” that Chief Delphi struggles with.
IF you can’t take the heat when you have to put your reputation on it, it’s not worth a hill of beans. This is FIRST for crying out loud. Say things with respect and goodwill and it should be ok. Disagree with the statement but respect the individual.
When the “heat” on this forum often consists of large quantities of vitriol and bad-faith snarking, I wholly understand why people have no desire to associate unpopular opinions with their actual names and teams.
If you choose not to listen to someone simply because they don’t want to deal with the unreasonable community blowback that inevitably surfaces any time someone disagrees with the “word of god” on Chief Delphi (we’ve all seen it happen, I think), then I think that’s probably your loss. I’ve seen plenty of valuable things posted from anonymous accounts that likely would not have been posted otherwise.
Knowing 4499 as a professional and courteous team, I seriously doubt anyone on the Highlanders would do this. Am I wrong? How did you attribute the account to the team number?
While the person seems like a troll to me, here is a constructive idea:
Violate the Stop Build Rule, and be honest about it on the Bag and Tag form.
Rebuild your robot to meet the rules.
Explain your situation to the LRI at your event.
Beg for mercy to be allowed to play in the Qualification Matches, and agree to not participate in Eliminations and letting the Judges know (since your robot should not be judged with the others).
I’m not comfortable with this advice. Teams and inspectors at an event will help you get legal. Teams have shown up with an unassembled Kop before and been able to play. A working basic drive base can be built in a few hours. There is still 4 days left in build as well, so this advice seems wrong.
In any event, a team in a rough situation such as this should contact first and the local lead mentor for advice before deciding to ignore the build deadline.
