Hi, I’ from team 6404 Brazilian Storm, for this year we decided to make an intake that could cover our robot’s entire front, for faster game pieces aquisition, we chose to use the 2" mecanums from 125, the printing and assembly went well, but they’re not working as they shopul, they don’t generate any side loads, they just work as if they were normal wheels
How far are the wheels from your bumper?

They only move balls to the side when the balls are pressed against a surface such as a bumper.
With no resistance the balls will only be pulled straight in.

First off, the outer edge wheels on both sides are pointing the wrong direction. With mecanums on an intake, you want them pointing in towards where you plan to suck the ball (if that makes sense). Look at 971’s bot in 2016 to see how the mecanums are arranged. With what you have right now, if a ball touches the outer edge, it’ll just go away from the robot than actually being intaked in.

We tested pushing them against hard smooth surfaces and they weren’t going to the side
we tested with various distances and the results were always the same, failure
The picture was the first I found of our intake, the mecanums are in the wrong way, the proplem isn’t that the balls are going to the wrong side, they are not going to any side at all
Do the balls jam to a stop when the rollers push them into the hard surface?
Do they continue to roll in place?
Do the mecanum rollers spin freely by hand?
Perhaps a video of a test would help us visually see any issues.

When we were testing, they needed to be nearly touching the bumpers. How close did you bring yours?

Your rollers need to be about 1.5 from your bumper and there needs to be a hole in your bumper for the ball to go through

Our bumper has an opening for the power cell, this is our last year’s bumper we’re testing on, the problem is no matter what we do the power cell never moves sideways
