Help with the gaming bridge!!

Can any one answer this question?

How do you connect the Gamming bridge to the 12V adaptor without damiging the prepacked transformer?

No, you have to clip the wires of the wallwart. Cut them as close to the wallwart as possible, then strip both leads.

Alternatively, you can buy a matching barrel connector, and save the wallwart?

Felix has it.
We used a spare connector cut off some other old transformer (double check the wiring polarity).

What to do with the wall-wart is documented in manual section 3.2.6 “How do I build a cable for passing 12V power to the WiFi adapter?”

I am pretty sure the (+) has a dashed white stripes painted along the wire
edit:worked in ours

If you aren’t sure of the polarity, get your Ohm meter out. The center of the plug is always positive and the outside is always negative. Put the meter on one wire and the outside of the plug. If the meter doesn’t read zero, switch wires.

There is another thread on this subject. Radio Shack has the connector. Add some wire, check for polarity and install.

Not Always!
If the device has this diagram on it then yes it it center positive:

If the Diagram is:

Then the center is negative and the outer shell is positive.

It is always a good idea to check with a continuity or an ohm meter to verify you have wired the connector correctly.

Why would you want to cut it as close to the wallwart as possible?

we cut ours about 6 inches away so in case at a later time we have wire to hook it back up again!

I’m with McGurky on this one… we cut ours off the wallwart, but we left a few inches of wire attached to the wallwart in case we wanted to put it back together for some reason. Its not like the cables aren’t already 6 or 7 feet long, which is generally speaking, way more than enough for an FRC bot.

Good point.

When I wrote “cut the wire off close to the Wall-Wart”, I did not mean “at the Wall-Wart”. The wording is unclear. How about “cut the wire a few inches from the Wall-Wart”?

That is a much superior wording, IMO, as people generally take things to an extreme unless its spoonfed to them exactly what you meant. Now, I can’t see any good reason we would WANT to hook it back up to a wall wart, but the point remains.

You can just buy a connector at radio shack. Try not to cannibalize the “wall wart” (I call them transformers), and instead just buy the stupid connectors somewhere. I don’t know why anyone would ruin the transformer when the connectors are available everywhere.

here is one type available at Radio Shack or any retail electronics store. They have different sizes too.
