Help with wiring telescoping elevator

We are building an off season robot with a two stage elevator. We have several concerns with wiring of the robot.
We are struggling to make it so it doesn’t pinch, get caught or go outside the perimeter when opening and closing.
The elevator is based off 4414.
Any suggestions?

Grab your old KOP bins if you’ve got them, pull out the Igus bag, and see how much energy chain you can link together. Not sure what energy chain is? It’s the long linky flexy thing that only flexes one way. There may also be things that look like they’re for mounting it, grab a couple of those too.

Exactly how to install and orient is left as an exercise for the builder, for now. It may become obvious as you play around with it. If it doesn’t, ask again. (Or take a look at 4414’s robot again.)

If you don’t have enough Igus energy chain from previous kits of parts (or don’t have any at all), it’s easy to buy some. WCP has some nice options. McMaster has enclosed and openable options. The KoP Igus chain is part number 05-20-038-0 if you want to try to buy some (more) of that.

I was recently talking with an Igus representative at an outreach event, and he pointed me at their YES Program (Young Engineers Support) which offers free and discounted products to programs including FRC. He encouraged our team to reach out ([email protected]) if we needed any kind of parts or support. I haven’t yet tried it but I encourage you to give it a try (and report back here on the experience!).
