Does anyone know what the longest round has ever been in FIRST?? The longest I know is the 5 match round between 1458-100-997 and 1662-1726-295 at davis last year.
IIRC, There were also 5 round finals at Midwest 2007 and at SBPLI 2006
That’s the longest one I know of (and watched, man that was thrilling).
Indeed it was, that quarterfinal round had the crowd going crazy, especially in the first game when 100 and 997 both got knocked over, that was a real shocker for everyone.
How the 100-997-1458 alliance managed to survive that and go on to win the regional, I’ll never completely understand, that was just amazing. Props to them for hanging in there and never giving up, especially with their backs against the wall for substantial parts of the round.
I forget the team numbers, but at PARC last year the quarterfinals went 5
In 2001, the New Jersey finals was tied after 6 rounds, and the rules that year did not let it keep going, instead going by the highest average score.
The alliance of 175, 95, 75, 133, 56 beat the alliance of 303, 365, 191, 103, 145 with an average score of 372.7 to 371 (less then half a percent).
If you count field resets…the Pittsburgh Regional Semis in 2006 had a match between 393-1629-1370 and 291-(…I’m really sorry, I’m blanking on the other two teams…) that went (from 1629’s perspective) win, lose, tie (BREATHTAKING tie, I might add), field reset, joystick ahem malfunction (an opposing robot inadvertently knocked it to the ground during the autonomous period), then a win. That’s 6 starts, but only 4 full matches.
I’ve also heard that the 1997 finals at the Mid-Atlantic Regional (now know as the NJ Regional) went on for quite some time.
