Hood Compression

Do you see the contradiction here?

Edit: you’re saying ‘we can’t’ and ‘don’t tell us we can’t do things’ in the same breath.

How do you know you can’t scrap everything and try something else? Maybe you can.

There’s a difference between someone telling us we shouldn’t and us saying we can’t. Not contradicting at all.

Just to quickly butt in here:

Learning how to set reasonable goals for yourself (and how to recognize and correct unreasonable goals) is one of the most valuable lessons FRC can teach. I’m not saying that the goal you set is unreasonable, but that objective setting is a skill just like anything else.

Yes I agree. But as a team we feel we can do this. Honestly I don’t know why this conversation even turned into this. I’d rather put it back on the track of getting a shooter to shoot more straight-line.

The conversation went this way because nearly every bit of help offered has been dismissed with a ‘we can’t do that.’

Tell us what you perceive your options to be and then maybe we can help in a more productive way.

Well I agreed to you saying try gearing it up. I agreed that using a larger wheel would work but aren’t able to with the design we have (because we are trying to stay low and the feeder to our shooter wont work with 6 in wheels because they are too low, and I simply said we don’t have the ability to redesign and someone says since its our first shooter that we should keep it “simple”. I think the best bet is trying maybe less compression, more slippery hood, and gearing up. Which I never disagreed with any of or came up with excuses for.

BTW sorry if I come across as sounding rude or anything of that matter. Just trying to state my position and I know it can come across wrong at times trying to do so. I appreciate the advice from everyone. Thanks!

So, the extra context you provided is quite helpful. Consider leading with that and including a picture of the robot/mechanism.

When the response to advice is ‘we can’t do that’ with no context and no logic it is frustrating for those trying to help you. Try to respond to suggestions more positively, and prioritize the improvement testing based on the effort to implement. You don’t even need to share that priority list back to the people who gave the advice, just acknowledge their contribution and move on.

Regarding the 6" wheel:

This is vital context that will certainly help us help you. We had no idea that there was an underlying reason you couldn’t move to a 6" wheel.

The more information we have about your setup the more we will be able to help you. As @JamesCH95 stated, a picture or two would be a massive help.
