Houston Robot Remix

The Houston Robot Remix is an off-season event in Houston, Texas celebrating its third year. For the past two years, the event was supported with funding and volunteers from the Lone Star Regional Committee.

For 2014, the event is planned and organized by FRC Teams 1477 Texas Torque and 624 CRyptonite with lots of help from our friends in the Houston Robotics Community. The event is funded by the registration fees paid by the participating teams. Any funds remaining after expenses are met will go to local charities.

Registration Link

We are allowing for 32 teams with a minimum of eight matches per team. Alliances will consist of four robots. Plan on the same rule modifications as IRI. The top eight teams are not allowed to select each other. The selection sequence will be 1 - 8 then 8 - 1. The backup robots will be randomly assigned from the robots remaining. We will be working with FIRST in Texas and the Texas Workforce Commission to arrange grants for rookie teams from Texas to pay their registration fee. Once a team has registered, they will receive an invoice via email for the registration fee.

When
All qualification and elimination rounds will happen on November 8. Field setup and load in will be November 7. Teams may also load in Saturday morning, November 8.

Where
Oak Ridge High School
27330 Oak Ridge School Road
Conroe, Texas 77385

Who
In the past, only teams from the Lone Star Region were allowed to participate. This year, we would love to see teams from all parts of Texas and those willing to make the drive (or flight) from outside the state.

Cost
$300 (if paid before September 12)
$350 (late registration)

Just registered, can’t wait for Remix 2014. Let me know how we can help.

Out of state teams, Torque puts on a very good event. If you can make the time to come join us this fall, please do. You won’t regret it.

Thanks Allen.

We had a great time at the Texas Robotics Invitational, even if we did get knocked out in the quarterfinals. I liked how even the play was with the changes you made in the alliance selection process.

Rip

Registered.
Although very different, I also liked how the alliance selection was done at TRI. I vote to do the same here.
If you need any help, let me know!

I have to fill out PO request, so I need the who, what, how, when and wheres.

Thanks,

PJ

Mr. Rip

Better hurry up teams!

How many chances do you get to play with the Poofs???

Don’t miss this opportunity.

4063 just registered, we look forward to the competition and thanks for the invite.

Mr. B

Apparently this will not be a chance to play with the Poofs. The registration was faked by someone. Now who does that kind of thing?

Match Results and Rankings[/b]**

Wow, what a weekend. Thanks to Texas Torque for the invite. Little did we know that our quick trip to Texas would turn into such a wonderful road trip for our kids.

Using FRC contacts our team has and reaching out to the Texas FIRST’s regional contacts we were able to schedule tours at Texas Instruments (thanks Steven, Rachel and Taylor) and NASA’s Johnson Space Center (thanks Mason and Lucien). Both gave our students real world examples of the possibilities FIRST and STEM education bring to college and career.

And the Robot Remix was a great way to close out the Aerial Assist season. It was a well run but casual event. We loved the venue, Oak Ridge High School, with the pits just a few few feet away from the playing field (plenty of time for one of our drivers to sprint there and back during a match to get the backup laptop - yes we know that was against the rules . . . ) Even though we were more than 1,000 miles away from home we had several friends and family from the Houston area, including a sponsor who had never seen a match before, stop by and join our cheering section.

It was great hanging out with some old FRC friends and making some new robot friends too. Can’t wait to see what some of the pre-rookies are able to accomplish during the 2015 season - and still hoping to get a TaRDIS team shirt at some point.

So glad we were able to have some of that amazing Texas BBQ on Saturday - what an wonderful treat, can’t get that back home. The hospitality overall from Texas Torque and Mr. Rip was wonderful.

Probably some of the most intense but fun elimination matches we’ve had this season. And for some reason all of our kids stepped up their individual games at the same time. We got home after our 18-hour bus ride with some very excited kids pumped to get to work for the 2015 season. That’s what an off-season is all about.

Not sure when we’ll make it back, but thanks y’all for putting on a great event.

+1 on the driver sprinting to the pit

+1 on Rip and Torque putting on a great event

It was great to compete with you and your team. I enjoyed visiting with several of your team members.
