For the past few years, to raise money, we have organized a concert consisting of local rock/punk/cover bands. This year, we may end up doing better than before. We have some decent bands from northeast PA coming into our little town to play a concert to benefit the bot. They are willing to play for pizza and soda… They get whatever money they get from their merchandise (cd’s mostly). We are having it at one of the middle-schools (not sure why it’s at the middle school) but it means no tobacco, drugs, or alcohol…making for a clean concert. We have 4 or 5 bands signed up so far and I think 2 are definite. We plan on charging $4 in advance and $6 at the door. We are hoping for a crowd in excess of 100. We’re really working hard to make sure this year it doesn’t bomb. Last year, there was a bit of a snow storm and it conflicted with a big dance at a local school.
This is a beautiful fundraiser. It’s hip and happenin, yo Many local bands are more than willing to play for food…as long as it gets their name and sound to the public. We got 5 bands and this area is quite remote…This isn’t a city The biggest ‘venue’ we have is a school gym. I can’t imagine how well this could do in a city with good bands and bigger places.
We do quite a few sales…we sell: Pies (from a local bakery…before Thanksgiving), Zap-A-Snacks (little microwavable pizzas…INCREDIBLY GOOD!), candy bars, lollipops, soda, subs (I think), mugs, shirts…etc. Every little bit helps. A big seller are Krispy Kreme donuts…we don’t have a KK anywhere near us but the local schools still sell them…the only reason the team doesn’t is because they’re popular with some of the schools.
Dudes!!! the concert ideas sooo work!!! some friends of mine did that a few months ago to raise money for their Battle Bot and they got over $1000 bucks in one night. Lucky for us they are on our FIRST team as well. So we now are going to be doing one for FIRST. The Punk bands they know are more then willing to help out and everything! Its great.!
