How are you archiving / storing your teams photos / videos?

It’s our teams 30th year competing. We are going back a digitizing lots of old photos / videos, and ran into a question.

How do other teams store digital photos / video?

What we’ve realized as we have been compiling: that with no central storage, a lot of stuff ends up in student accounts, and we lose access to it when the student moves on from the team.

What have other teams worked out? How are you storing your photo’s / videos so the team keeps them from year to year?

We put them in a Slack channel

We put ours in Google Photos albums.

We use smugmug.com and they are now a virtual kit of parts provider so you can use it for free.

Thank you for letting me know about SmugMug. We’re looking into that. It checks a lot of boxes:

  • Handles Video / Photos
  • Unlimited storage
  • Folder / organization of media
  • Not self hosted (We can’t host anything at the School)

Do you know if there is an easy way to have multiple people contribute? (Multiple students running around with phones / cameras)

We are also considering keeping everything in a Google One account owned by the team.

We do have SLACK and right now most of our media from the last 5 years is in it, but the lack of organization / searchability is a real handicap.

Yes we have two ways

  • Our couches and student leaders all just have the login info for the account and can go in and organize pictures, upload, etc.
  • You can create upload links to any folder, so we do this to collect pictures from all students, parents, other people at events, etc.
