How do you cool your motors?

Yea… pathetic as it may sound, we decided to air-cool the drill motors that power our drive train. Are anyone else’s motors getting a bit toasty?

all bosch drills need cooling, thats just how they are made, i wonder if some people will end up melting thier plastic holders this year. on the other hand, run the atwood for 4 hours and its still cold

…must increase robot’s FSB…arg…motors need more voltage…

Really? Didn’t Dave run some tests last year and find out that it got so hot it could of burned you?

P.S. Last year we thrashed our drills nonstop and they never overheated. However, with the more pwerful drills this year, that may be a problem.

Cory

I’d just like to say, from having been on the old Panzer Aluminum, team 132, That overheated motors CAN HAPPEN TO YOU!! lol…keep em cool, or else!

Are fins a “tried and true” cooling method for you, or is this the first time you’re using them? I’m interested in how fins might work – are they very large?

P.S. If the person who voted water cooling is telling the truth, he or she might want to take a look at this thread about whether water cooling is legal.

Sorry…It’s an impulse to automatically vote for anything with w00t in the name…

These new drill motors get /alot/ hotter than last years. In our early drive design, we had a lot of resistance since we forgot to lube the helical gears… well, needless to say, we desoldered one of the wires from a motor, and probly got close to frying it. But it was kinda cool to lick you finger, and make it sizzle on a motor.

We have the Big muffin fans Ziptied right to our Chips for cooling works great
