How do you enclose the end parts of the shafts

What component do you use or what method do you follow to enclose the end parts of the shafts (the part after the bearing) ?

Definitely my preferred method, but also should mention that E-clips exist.
They’re more annoying to deal with and somewhat harder to quick change though if that’s a problem.

usually just make it a bit longer and put a shaft collar on each end. (we have a lot of shaft collars)

Shaft collars are much more likely to come loose, and then Bad Things™ occur. I highly recommend the washer and button-head screw (with blue loctite) technique for ease, weight, geometry, and reliability.

Yes, blue. This is very important.

I agree 100% that screws and washers with Loctite work most of the time and that’s what I recommend in that application. But just a FYI we came out with these to fix some issues related to this.

My team has always used shaft collars, primarily because they’re easy to get your hands on, easily removable/adjustable, and they don’t rely on the shaft being tapped.

However, not all shaft collars are created equal: if it’s thin and has a very small set screw, trust me, you don’t want it. Here are my top picks:

High-Strength Clamping Shaft Collar from VEX Robotics

1/2" Hex Collar Clamps from Andymark

They also come in different bores and sizes. Hope this helps!
