Hello, our team is planning on building an intake that will weigh around 15lbs and was wondering what gear ratio would we need to be able to drive it. We plan to use 2 kraken motors. How do we figure out this sort of stuff? Thanks!
Pick something relatively high that won’t give you too bad of a deploy time. The gear ratio calculators don’t always work well for intake deploy because 4 bar linkages are hard to simulate, and won’t account for backdriveability (which you want to avoid damage to the intake).
My AMB Calculator has a mechanism calculator (for near-constant speed mechanisms) and mechanism startup simulator (for accelerating mechanisms) to find the proper gear ratio according to the motor(s) used and load applied.
