How do you get written permission for music on the chairmens award video

how would i get written permission from an artist such as daft punk for my chairman’s video please help

<facepalm> Send a letter to the record company. I can almost guarantee that they’ll say no, though.

For some reason we have a ton of band kids on our team. We are hoping to record a few jam sessions and then take the best of that.

If it is original music, no problem. But if the song is copyrighted, you still need permission from the copyright owner no matter who performs it.

Remember if you are asking for the music you MUST let them know there is a chance that the video will be played in front of 1000s of people and becomes property of FIRST once you are finished.

That being said, I would recommend checking out Creative Commons there are several great artists on there that are willing to give you permission in order to get their sound out there.

How do you use creative commons

Using copyrighted music can be a very cumbersome process in getting permission to use it.
We tried unsuccessfully with some local Hawaiian music that Sony had rights to, primarily because it took too long to get a response in time for our video submission at NYC last year.

If you haven’t started the process yet, I’d recommend against it and use non-copyrighted music instead. There are lots of sources to acquire/subscribe to.

Google is your friend.

You can find a lot of information regarding the use of a cc license here. I would reccomend letting the creator of the music you use know what you are doing with it, I bet they would be interested in your team’s program!
