Do we need to set a device number on the navX Main in Robot Main?
No, you do not need to wire anything to the Device Number or the Update inputs per the video tutorial linked to above. 
Jonathan is correct. The only time you need to wire the device number up is if you are using multiple navX devices on a robot, in which case you need to use the device number to identify which of the multiple navX devices you are communicating with.
