How does autobuilder for path planner work?

Hey guys, I am a little confused about how autobuilder works. Can I even run commands at events if I am not using autobuilder? Are there any good auto repositories that I could reference? Thanks in advance!

if you set up autobuilder in the constructor of your DriveSubsystem, it offers methods that let you easily run autos in a couple lines of code as opposed to running them manually. Look at the “Build an Auto” part of pathplanner.dev (under the PathPlannerLib section) for more info on how to set it up
