Guys, we have read the rules, and we cant find anywhere how far the pyramids are from the alliance walls, does anyone have an answer to this question?
There are several useful documents available at http://frc-manual.usfirst.org/. The “Arena Layout and Markings” is one of them, and has the answer to your question.
The back of the pyramid is 9 feet from the center line, which is 27 feet from each wall. The pyramid is 8 feet wide, so the closer edge of the pyramid is (27 - 9 - 8 =) 10 feet from the Alliance wall.
The field is 27 feet wide, and the pyramids are centered between the sides. So, the pyramid is ((27 - 8) / 2 =) 9.5 feet from the sides.
Not to quibble of 2 inches, but section 2.2.5 of the Game Manual shows the pyramid as 94 inches wide not 96. That places the front of the pyramid at 10’ 2" from the alliance wall.
I stand corrected. Thanks for the details, Randy.
Still, no robot design (or game strategy) should depend on those 2 inches. There is a statement from FIRST that the overall field dimensions may vary by up to 4 inches at any given venue.
Thanks for the help guys, we needed to know how much space our robot had to back up and take the shot at a lower angle, thanks for the help
The game manual says: “ULTIMATE ASCENT is played by two competing alliances on a flat, 27 x 54 ft field”. But, it does not state if the field includes, or excludes the Alliance Station areas (where the players control the robot). In other words, what part of FE-00036 Sheet 5 is 27x54.
I wish the Arena Layout markings specified the distance from plexiglass to plexiglass.
Just to add from what I understood the measurement of 94 inches is from each corner of the pyramid that is touching the floor so not the 30" bar.
The Alliance Stations are not included - it’s 54’ wall to wall.
