How Far is Everyone?

Hey guys, I know it’s always hard to figure out how much progress you team is making compared to other teams. I just wanted to know how far everyone is in the build period. Thanks.

We are a bit behind but are catching up. The animation is ahead though. Going to finish that tomorrow!

Cool, I think our team is a little behind too. More specifically, what have you accomplished?

Drive train, manipulator, website, controls, some programming an most of the lift/arm. Oh, i almost forgot, the animation is going to be done tomorrow.

I did forget to mention minibot. It is being refined now and we are working on deployment.

Awesome, we have drive train, working manipulator, almost working lift  , some controls and programming. No animation though, we’ve been lacking that in the past few years.

What! That’s the best part! :stuck_out_tongue: I love animation. Although, I have done some lift, controls, drive train, electrical, and last year, kicker. This year, we had to start over with our lift just last week. Almost got the new design done now though.

We’re running a Sunday this week to catch up due to snowdays. Our goal is to have the entire robot done, driving, and elevator working. Will we achieve it? I hope.

As of right now, our:

Drive train, frame, minibot deployment, and electronics board are on the robot. On our elevator system, we have the main assembly done, with the grabber still waiting on machining.

We are meeting every day now. The snow affected us too. We missed 2 meetings because of it.

Sounds good. I forgot to mention our minibot, (or lack thereof :stuck_out_tongue: ). We have a rudimentary minibot but haven’t made a deployment mechanism yet.

Drove for the first time yesterday, nothing else works yet.

How far are we?

On build day 33, we scored a tube under pure robot power (the fact that it was day 33 was pure coincidence). We then scored again and again and again.

We are now ready to tune the constants. I expect that by Monday we will have it driving under at least partially automated control, although for us partially automated means full P/PD/PID and basic state machines (fully automated control includes more advanced state machines, action sequences, and more).

hanging tubes on the middle and lower pegs, the redesigned (or is that the designed) arm support is getting built so we’ll be able to do the top one too.

We are not as far along as we’d like to be, but farther than we feared we’d be.

I would say pretty good so far. We have most of our autonomous done, our manipulator mechanism should be done tomorrow for testing and driving. Been driving for a week now and getting good amounts of practice. Everything else should come together by about Monday or Tuesday.

I’m pretty sure we’re at the exact same point everyone else is: Day 35 of 45.

We worked pretty hard tonight. I should say the kids worked pretty hard tonight, the mentors didn’t do much. Pretty much the only tools I used tonight was my clamp meter, 11-1 screwdriver and my lineman’s pliers.

We have a working arm and grabber, completed and tweaked teleoperated code, 99% wired. They got the mini bot completed too. All that’s left pretty much is the deployment system and mount some sensors and the pesky camera and tweak the autonomous code.

Also in some crazy last minute decision we are taking our 2011 bot and t-shirt shooter to a sponsor tomorrow.

The prototype is nearly complete so the drives team will have time to practice with it. The actual robot is well within production and the mini bot is coming along nicely. It goes up the pole so that’s a good thing. The animation could be hit or miss to whether it will make the deadline. The Website update is going steady and the Hall of Fame display seems to be ahead of schedule in it’s design this yea.
All things considered we are doing pretty well with all the changes we have been going through.

looks good, how does your manipulator work?

Good answer, I think that’s where we are too. It could be better or worse.

Far? We’re working on mechanical things right now. Our electrical, wiring and programming has the most progress. We still need to get pneumatics (and the MiniBot?) done.

We’ve been hit with lots of weather issues, and a Power Distribution Board that broke.
