Most teams in New England have had at least 5 days since kickoff with some serious snow. We’re getting hit again today and tomorrow with a huge storm coming from the mid west which will make our schools closed again.
Maybe FIRST can consider extending the deadline as they did a few years ago.
Let me count… 3 days so far for us, one tomorrow for sure plus possibly one Thursday so that’s 4-5 days missed for a total of about 18 hours of build time (we’ve made up 3 hours so far). It also does not help that Wednesday/Thursday are the days our transmissions and new CIMs are showing up. In addition to some more 8020 stuff probably showing up then as well.
Define “effected” in this context… we haven’t had to cancel any meetings yet, but there have been some abnormally sparse meetings (like last night) due to snow. Fortunately, yesterday was the first actually bad day we’ve had all year. After all the snow we got in December, I was considering buying a snowmobile to get down to the build space!
I can now add today to the list of snow casualties… school canceled ALL after school activites so no robotics tonight, so the figure for us is now 5-6 days lost and 18-21 build hours.
Looks like AndyMark is being affected which will in return affect everyone, including us on the west coast…
We have just been notified that our shipping providers have suspended all shipping (both Ground and Express services) from Kokomo, Indiana due to extreme weather conditions. While we understand your time constraints within FIRST Robotics and have been working diligently to get your orders out, we will not be able to issue discounts or refunds due to these weather conditions beyond our control.
Our local weather forecast is calling for up to 12" of blowing and drifting snow in the next 24 hours. We will update the home page of our website to let you know when our shipping operations resume.
We appreciate your business and patience in this matter.
Milwaukee is getting hammered. The public schools (which UPS runs through) have no school tomorrow and no activities today or tomorrow. That puts us back two days…
… which I found out I REALLY needed ten minutes before the end of the meeting yesterday.
So far we have had 2 days off of school, which has not stopped us from meeting but this is a sign of the apocalypse, they never cancel school for our district. We may have more though…
Today makes two. We’re getting the very edge of that storm that’s supposed to be causing havoc to the east. No snow though, just really cold. Cancelled after school activities yesterday in anticipation of bad weather, and cancelled school altogether today because of “dangerously cold temperatures,” which in this case means been below zero all day
This year we decided to only work 4 days a week on the robot. Today was the first day we canceled due to weather. Every other snow day the students had we told them to be at the shop at 10am so we could work, given they could get there safely of course.
