How many notes in autonomous?

I’m curious what your guesses are for the maximum amount of notes that we will see a robot score in autonomous this season. Any thoughts?

  • 3 notes
  • 4 notes
  • 5 notes
  • 6 notes

I’m assuming you mean the amount scored for one robot, the main auton I see being used is one robot shooting a preload and then picking up and shooting the three notes placed directly in front of the subwoofer.

Yes, only counting a single robot

If your talking about from 1 robot I would say 3, teams could maybe get more but I’ve seen a couple teams mange 3 on their own in auto.

I think 4 is very doable, since you have 1 preload and 3 nearby notes. I’m guessing that after scoring those, you will have about 6-9 seconds left for extra notes

Haha please send 7 note auto @Michael_Corsetto

It seems unlikely to me that you can score many of those center notes especially with the rules against long shots.

Before you post it @Michael_Corsetto can you wait till @Connor_H makes another bet? I want to see him eat another shoe.

Is this in an actual match or would a practice match count? I feel like the congestion this year might make more than 4 hard unless you are down a robot for some reason.

Edit: Although if you get spicy with your alliance partner preloads…

Going for the 50 note auton!

Ah yes, the vacuum Notes out of the opponent source and shoot a Note every 0.3 seconds Auto mode!

The problem with more than four is that the rest of the potential scoreable notes are at midfield. Given that long shots are prohibited, so that a robot must travel at least until they’re back in their Wing, and even that is a problematic shot (halfway back is a more likely shot distance even for high performance teams) there’s just not enough time for a robot to shoot the preloaded note, the three from the Wing and then more than two from the center, no matter how fast they are. It’s like getting more than a five ball auto in 2022, it’s not just the time it’s the distance. We’ll see a fair number of four note autos and some five and six note ones from the top teams, but that’s it in an actual match.

A lot of elite teams look basically the full fifteen seconds last year to score three game pieces, with very few having time to go back to midfield before auton ended. While shooting should be faster than pick and place, I still don’t see how many team could shoot their preload, the three nearby notes and still have the time to go to midfield and back 3 times, all in fifteen seconds.

Possibly shooting on the move?

2910 had 6 ball auto in 2022. Wasn’t very practical but it worked

I think that elite teams will definitely build fancy turrets that can do all kinds of crazy shots

I agree with what others have said about congestion between alliance partners. An individual robot choosing to score all the notes it can may not always be the best strategy for an alliance.

I would be interested to see a robot quickly project Centerline Notes toward its wing. Even if unable to score notes in the Speaker from such a range, this would be a great defense strategy.

Still have to drive into the wing to shoot, and maneuver around the stage supports and potentially other bots while you’re at it.
