How many times did your team tip over?

I was watching some of my teams matches from 2018 and saw how many teams tipped over this year.

How many times did your team tip over?

Was it auto, tele-op tipping or an involuntary tip?

I’m happy to say my team made it through 2018 tip-free.

We tipped twice

The second time was my favorite

Tips in competition?..or tips in auto testing?..or both?
Because one of these things is significantly more than the others…::rtm::

Tipped over at every competition we attended

My calc class was very amused when they saw us tip over on the Detroit livestream.

I (as business lead) bet my mechanical lead $10 it would tip, and we did twice… so it was somewhat bitter sweet.

1st time we got tipped by bear metal, thanks for that guys hahaha :stuck_out_tongue:

Check 1:08 in the top right corner

2nd time witch was far more interesting, again playing with Bear Metal. Finals match 1 vs the very capable alliance of IRS, Skunkworks, and Chill Out. Of course we tipped very early, and Spartabots were having connection issues, yet Bear Metal, through incredible skill, was able to keep us afloat. Very interesting match with lots of good teams, I highly suggest checking it out!

Tip at 0:45

We tipped within the first five minutes of driving our robot during build season. We immediately wrote some anti-tipping code for the elevator/drivetrain.

Once when we were dropped and once in district champs semifinals when auto freaked out. Pretty spectacular.

More than 5, less than 10. Some day we’ll learn how to protect ourselves from this. :o

Almost once but then 27 caught us. They literally had our back.

I thought you meant in competition, so I put 0. But we did tip once during practice; fell directly onto our open cube-grabbing claw, which bent the supports in a way that actually made our design better!

Of course it was a programmer driving… but we can’t give him too much grief because it did actually make the robot better. (No matter, there are plenty of other things to rib him about. He’s a programmer.)

Now the driver who put a hole in the wall of our workshop, she’s another story. She’ll never live that one down.

1 tip at a week 0 scrimmage and 1 “tip” at an offseason competition when we forgot to put the robot up on blocks and it got driven full speed off the cart and into the wall. From now on, our blocks will be hard mounted to the cart.

Same.

What’s up with these poll options?

I hope nobody tipped over 4 times. And also, if you tipped over 10 times that is both at least 5 and at least 10.

Tip? What’s that? Is that something lift robots do?

No lift, no tip, unless you count scales and switches after we launched a cube up.

Now, that’s only our 2018 robot. Both of the previous units went over at least once.

The team I mentored last year had a low scoring machine with a CoG somewhere around the underground parking lot beneath the field. They never tipped over this year, but my old team did an epic one at GTR in 2005 that got our robot featured on a Discovery Channel Canada ad for the next two years.

The funny part was that it was 1241 who knocked us over… we were billeting with them in Toronto that year and they were very apologetic afterwards… but it was a perfectly clean play and our CoG was just too high. Anyway… if you’re going to tip, make it epic, and make it on Discovery!

Then lower your CoG in future years.

Oof. What tipping over in competition. If we’re not talking about competition then umm… We don’t talk about it. (Probs Once or Twice while testing code)

If we’re talking about competition, only once or twice under extenuating circumstances…mostly auto…
If we’re talking about practicing…I may have tipped the robot 10 or so times while testing autos…but we made sure to have someone ready to catch!

Competition: 0
Off-season: ummm, many.

  1. You were talking about the entire history of the team, right?

Even when we fell off the top bar of the pyramid in 2013 we be able to drive away!
