I want to bring power t the Axis 206 Camera. I cut and stripped the wire off from the camera power adapter. However I do not know which wire is positive or negative. Can anyone help me?
Take a look at the molded plug, it should have a marking showing the polarity. The center should be positive while the outside should be ground. Now use a multimeter set to continuity tester and probe from one end to the other (connector to cut/stripped end). Once you wire it up, ensure voltage and polarity per the markings before plugging it into the camera.
I don’t know if the Axis Camera has it on it, but most devices I’ve seen on the sticker with the electrical specs (ie. input 5V 600mA etc.) have a picture of the plug and which part is positive and negative. From there, you could use a multimeter to find out which wire is on the outside of the barrel plug, and figure out if it’s positive or negative.
This should work, definitely as a starting point. I didn’t do my teams so anyone who wants to confirm or deny this method please do.
Edit: This post confirms that the center of the plug should be positive. Sorry for the double answer, I check to see if anyone had responded, and they hadn’t. But iambujo did between then and my posting.
Also, the positive wire for the camera will have a white stripe down the side of it. (Negative will have no stripe or markings) This stripe can be solid or dashed - but as stated before, double check the polarity before plugging it into the camera.
