how to build a forklift type arm

my team and students have recently decide to do some off-season prototyping and one of the things that we want to do is a forklift type arm but we dont have a clue on how to build one. we wud greatly appericated if a team who has done this before wud give us a idea on how to build it pics, videos anything wud help us thank you

A great start would to look at successful teams that have used a forklift arm. Look at pictures of 254 and 25 from 2007 and you will see great examples of forklift arms.

Or do you mean one like 816?

Btw, here’s an aweosme picture of 25 last year for reference…

It is also similar to our design from last year…

yeah i have the first book and 25 arm looks great but we need examples on how to build it from the ground up

The following white paper has some good information: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/1322 and here are some more pictures: http://www.firstroboticscanada.org/site/node/72

Here is another discussion of forklifts (which came up in the related threads on the bottom of this page): http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61695

I’ve designed two for my team in the last two years (1 vex and 1 FRC) and I’ve got a pretty good handle on how they work essentially. If you want anything specific from our robot in terms of pictures or diagrams just shoot me a PM and I’ll send them to you.
